MTG Star Trek features ultra-rare cards signed by actors, and there are only 200 of each

We've now got our first look at MTG Star Trek after months of waiting, and fans of the franchise should set their phasers to "holy crap" – it includes some incredibly cool but impossibly rare cards collectors will wanna get their hands on.

Alongside the reveal of a (surprisingly extensive) product lineup that ranges from Commander Decks to beginner boxes, publisher Wizards of the Coast pulled back the curtain on the set's most valuable cards: extremely limited character cards signed in person by the actors. While there are seven of these cards in total (including Captain Kirk and Captain Janeway so far), only 200 or so have been made for each one across the entire MTG Star Trek range.

As you might expect, these aren't going to turn up just anywhere. The signed autograph cards can only be found in Collector Booster packs, so fans of both Star Trek and the best card games should make a beeline for those when MTG Star Trek launches in November 2026.

Naturally, those weren't the only cards to be shown off. We also got our first look at an Enterprise card (the Enterprise D from Next Generation) that brings back the 'Station' mechanic from last year's sci-fi Edge of Eternities set. In essence, you've got to use creatures to power it up with charge counters until it activates, at which point it becomes a powerful artifact creature in its own right. This represents crew-members manning their posts.

By the looks of things, thematic mechanics such as this are laced throughout MTG Star Trek. The Borg can assimilate and take over rival creature cards, for example, letting you infect the table. (Resistance is futile, after all.) Meanwhile, Captain Janeway 'Explores' just as she does in Voyager – you reveal the top card of your library, and if it's a land, you put it into your hand.

Thematic mechanics like this will be seen in full force throughout MTG Star Trek's four Commander Decks. Speaking of which, here's everything you need to know about them along with the other products launching as part of MTG Star Trek:

Image

Federation Fleet (Commander Deck)
This headline deck is a blue, red, and white combo that emphasizes card draw and charging starships. It's headed up by Captain Picard and focuses on the TNG era (including Voyager and Deep Space Nine).

Image

Landing Party (Commander Deck)
Considering how this deck is led by Spock, fans won't be surprised to learn that it revolves around the original series and that time period (e.g. it may feature Discovery and Strange New Worlds too, but this is unconfirmed0). A white, green, and blue deck, it leans on the Landfall mechanic where certain abilities activate when a land enters.

Image

Klingon Fury (Commander Deck)
As a Worf-fronted deck revolving around the Klingons, it may not come as a shock that this red, white, and black deck is very aggressive and allows you to "hit the whole battlefield."

Image

We Are the Borg (Commander Deck)
It does what it says on the tin - this one is all about the Borg. It's a white, blue, and black deck about 'assimilating' the enemy, which is exactly what it sounds like; you take creatures and turn them into Borg under your control.

Image

Bundle
As per usual, this set launches with a bundle in tow. It'll feature nine Play Booster packs. These traditionally include themed lands and spindown counters too.

Image

Beam Me Up Bundle
It's not clear what this alternate bundle includes, but the artwork states that it includes a Collector Booster - presumably alongside the nine usual Play Boosters, themed lands, and spindown counter.

Image

Prerelease
If you can get into a local game store before release, you can pick up a Prerelease pack. These typically feature boosters and a themed d20 die to track your HP. I don't see why MTG Star Trek would be any different.

Image

Draft Night
MTG's new kind of box-set returns for Star Trek, providing a self-contained experience for four players with the Pick-Two Draft format.

Image

Scene Boxes
Star Trek is getting its own display scenes, just like MTG Marvel Super Heroes before it. There are two kinds available; one depicting Q's shenanigans from Next Generation, and another with the cast of the J.J Abrams movies.

Image

Beginner Box
New to MTG? This starter set contains two instant-play decks, how to play guides, and eight Jumpstart decks to get you to grips with Magic.

Image

Play Boosters
As always, you'll find Play Booster packs for MTG Star Trek both separately and in a multi-pack box.

Image

Collector Boosters
Want the rarest or prettiest cards? Separate Collector Booster packs or a box of multiple ones will be for you.

Welcome Decks
As is becoming a trend, MTG Star Trek will feature four beginner-friendly Welcome Decks that ease newcomers into the game. They are normally found in-store, so don't expect to find them online.

We'll apparently get more details about MTG Star Trek over the next few months, with a large info dump to come in October. The set will then launch in November, 2026.

For something to play before then, why not check out the best board games? As for more Magic, MTG Hobbit reignites the "no pumpkins allowed in Middle-earth" debate, and yes, it's as wild as it sounds.

I've been writing about games in one form or another since 2012, but these days you'll find me managing GamesRadar+'s tabletop gaming and toy coverage (I spend my time here handling everything from board game reviews to the latest Lego news). I've also been obsessed with Warhammer since the 1990s, and love nothing more than running tabletop RPGs like D&D as a Dungeon Master.
