A new year means that it's already time to start tracking upcoming movies for 2026 and beyond, and trust us folks, we are in for a treat. Not only do we have some of the most long-awaited sequels finally coming our way, but there's also a reboot that we've all been dying for and some of the most exciting upcoming video game movies as well!

You may still be reeling from the 2025 movie release calendar. After all, Avatar: Fire and Ash just released in cinemas (read our Avatar: Fire and Ash review for more on that), and there's plenty of DC and Marvel fare to catch up on as well. However, 2026 has the likes of Dune: Part 3, a new Robert Eggers movie, and some thrilling upcoming horror movies, too. January is an especially busy month as well, so we've made a handy guide so that you can hit the ground running when it comes to planning your next cinema trip.

Upcoming movies in 2026

Release date: January 23, 2026

Personally, I love playing the best Silent Hill games, however, a lot of the past Silent Hill movies haven't managed to blow me away. But maybe Return to Silent Hill can change my mind about on-screen adaptations for one of my favorite games. Following Silent Hill 2's story around James coming to the titular town after receiving a letter, the upcoming horror movie is going for psychological thrills. Hopefully, we get to see Pyramid Head as well.

Scream 7

Release date: February 27, 2026

Scream 7 has had a very bumpy road; however, it's finally coming out in early 2026. While we won't see a lot of the main cast featured in Scream 5 or Scream 6, we do know that legacy stars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox are returning. Kevin Williamson, who also worked on the original Scream, Scream 3, Scream 4, and executive-produced the last two movies in the franchise, is also directing. So we have high hopes that the new slasher will be a good one, folks.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay adapted by Drew Goddard, the film's cast also includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce and Ken Leung. In the first trailer for Project Hail Mary we can see what to expect of the upcoming sci-fi, including Gosling's character meeting an alien that seems super friendly...

Not only is it adapting one of the best Mario games ever made, but the A-list main cast from the first flick is returning as well. Hopefully, we get a trailer soon, but for now, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is top of our list for our most anticipated upcoming video game movies releasing in 2026.

The Mummy

Release date: April 17, 2026

OK, so let's all forget that the awful 2017 Mummy movie was a thing and instead get excited that we have a new reboot in the works. According to Deadline, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in talks to reprise their roles from the iconic late '90s and early 2000s movies that have since become cult classics. We still don't have any plot details yet, but we loved the original Mummy movies that saw the two stars facing off against Imhotep. Stay tuned as we track all the latest news and updates for The Mummy 4.

The film has had a few release date changes, having originally been slated for 2025 before being moved to May 15, 2026, and then pushed up slightly to May 8. However, if you love grand action set pieces, you'll probably still be excited about catching this one on the big screen.

Supergirl

Milly Alcock as Supergirl

The new DCU timeline is now in full swing following the release of James Gunn's Superman in 2025, and the next big film in the DCU: Chapter One plan is none other than Supergirl. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the upcoming movie features Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, who decides to celebrate her 21st birthday by travelling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto. Obviously, her plans go wrong in some kind of way, though, so don't expect a fun superhero road trip movie without any fights.

The Odyssey

Matt Damon in The Odyssey

Release date: July 17, 2026

Christopher Nolan is back on the big screen in 2026 with his highly anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey, and the scale of the production is epic. Holland promised that the film will "be unlike anything we've ever seen," so this could easily become one of the best Christopher Nolan movies.

Evil Dead Burn

The Book of the Dead in Evil Dead Rise

Release date: July 24, 2026

I love the Evil Dead movies; in fact, I firmly believe that Evil Dead 2 is one of the best horror movies of all time, so yeah, I'm excited for a new entry to the franchise, and you should be too. Evil Dead Burn is a standalone entry in the Necronomicon and Deadite universe that is being directed by Sébastien Vaniček. While we have no clues on the upcoming movie's plot, we do know that Sam Raimi is one of the flick's producers, and we trust his judgment, considering that the Evil Dead franchise is his gnarly little baby. Stay tuned for updates.

Release date: July 31, 2026

Marvel Phase 6 is officially underway, and before we get into the first new Avengers movie, our favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be swinging onto the big screen. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Tom Holland return as Peter Parker. Currently, we don't know the plot for this one; however, we are pretty certain it will give us some cliffhangers to keep us hooked until Avengers: Doomsday comes out later in the year. Stay tuned for updates!

Insidious 6

Lin Shaye as Elise in Insidious: The Red Door

Release date: August 6, 2026

Good news, horror fans, we are getting a new Insidious movie with the upcoming spooky flick Insidious 6. Unfortunately, the plot for this one is being kept under tight lock and key. But we do know that Lin Shaye is back as Elise Rainier and that filming on the project recently wrapped as well. So it's only a matter of time before a trailer and more story details drop. Keep your eyes on this page as we'll update you as soon as we know more.

Clayface

Johnny Williams

Release date: September 11, 2026

One of the upcoming DC movies scheduled for 2026 is Clayface, and fans of body horror will want to pay attention. With a script written my horror hit Mike Flanagan, and helmed by Woman in Black director James Watkins, it seems like we'll be getting the spookiest superhero movie around as we follow the story of a disfigured actor turning his body into clay. Very exciting stuff, and with such a strong team, we are expecting big things from this future flick.

Resident Evil

Release date: September 18, 2026

We absolutely love the Resident Evil video games. I mean, in terms of survival horror and zombie thrills Capcom holds the crown thanks to it's legendary franchise. So, needless to say, we are excited for this upcoming reboot that is also being helmed by Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Currently there are no plot details out in the wild and we don't know if the film will be adapting the games or simply using the world to host a brand new story with fresh characters. Stay tuned for updates.

Street Fighter Movie

Street Fighter

Release date: October 15, 2026

We've had plenty of Street Fighter movies already come our way over the years. Some have been good, some have been bad. And, hopefully the upcoming 2026 Street Fighter Movie is one of the good ones. Bad Trip's Kitao Sakurai is set to direct the flick, and so far, its story is seemingly taking inspiration from the game Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The cast is filled with stars and is massive, featuring the likes of Jason Momoa and 50 Cent. Fingers crossed we get a fun flick!

Jumanji 3

Jack Black in Jumanji: The Next Level

Release date: December 11, 2026

Jumanji 3 has been a long time coming, but after years of waiting, we now know that it'll be heading our way in December 2026. No plot details have been disclosed about the sequel yet, but we do have our theories. Dwayne Johnson posted a bunch of images on Instagram that hint towards the new movie having the characters enter the Jumanji board game rather than a video game, just like the original '90s movie. This is just speculation on our part, though, and we'll update you as soon as we know more!

Avengers: Doomsday

Robert Downey Jr. in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement video

Release date: December 18, 2026

Avengers: Doomsday is the first out of the two planned Avengers movies that are pretty much Marvel Phase 6's big ticket items. Doctor Doom is the new big bad, and he is being played by none other than Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. Currently, the plot is being kept under wraps, but we do know that it will have a stacked cast. As more details come our way, we'll keep you posted. But regardless, Marvel fans will want to mark their calendars for this new film.

Dune: Part Three

Timothee Chalamet as Paul in Dune: Part Two

Release date: December 18, 2026

The final part of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic is releasing at the end of 2026, and we couldn't be more excited about it. Dune: Part Three will bring us back to the grand space opera and see Paul Atreides return. Currently, we aren't 100% sure how Villeneuve plans to adapt the next part of Herbert's novel since there is a 12-year gap from the events of Dune: Part Two to deal with. Hopefully, we get a trailer soon so we have a clearer idea.

Werwulf

Willem Dafoe in Robert Eggers' Nosferatu (2024)

Release date: December 25 2026

Robert Eggers is coming back to the big screen at the end of 2026 and he is bringing a new monster with him. That's right, after giving us witches in The Witch, and vampires in Nosferatu, the acclaimed director is now moving onto werewolves. Not much is known about the upcoming horror movie, except that it will be another period piece for the director set in 13th-century England. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe are also set to appear in the movie, so we are excited to see what all the talent will bring us.

Upcoming movies in 2027

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in Sonic 3

Release date: March 19, 2027

Kicking off a very exciting year for video game movies is Sonic the Hedgehog 4. That's right, you just can't keep the speedy blue star down, as we are getting another sequel to the hit films. It's a tad too early for full story details on this one yet; however, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 post-credits scenes did hint at beloved characters from the games making an appearance in the new movie, and that Shadow has somehow survived as well. So, yeah, we are still plenty hyped even without a ton of information at our fingertips. While we wait for more news, you can check out our Sonic the Hedgehog 3 review as well.

The Legend of Zelda

Breath of the Wild

Release date: May 7, 2027

Nintendo fans have been waiting for a proper The Legend of Zelda movie for years, and now 2027 is looking to answer their prayers. Director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Maze Runner movies, Wes Ball, is on board to helm the upcoming adventure film, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has been cast as Link, while Bo Bragason will be portraying Princess Zelda. Currently, we also know that Ganon will be the movie's main villain and that Link will be protecting Hyrule in some kind of way against the warlord. It's all very exciting, and we can't wait for a trailer to drop.

Star Wars: Starfighter

Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray in Star Wars: Starfighter

Release date: May 28, 2027

Ryan Gosling is finally getting his big Star Wars moment in the upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter. Set to hit the big screen on May 28, 2027, not much is known about this one. However, we have found out that it will take place after The Rise of Skywalker and that it's a standalone adventure that explores a period in the Star Wars timeline that we haven't seen before (exciting, right?). Shawn Levy is signed on to direct, and The Adam Project writer, Jonathan Tropper, is penning the script. Filming has also already begun, so it seems like we'll be getting more news and teasers for this film soon as well, folks!

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Release date: June 18, 2027

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the final installment of the Spider-Verse trilogy (aka some of the best animated movies of all time), so you'll definitely want to mark your calendars for it. The last film in the series that we got came out in 2023, so the wait has been a long one that will hopefully pay off come June in 2027. The upcoming film's story will start immediately after the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales still trapped in an alternate universe. If you need a refresher before the new flick, you can read our Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse review for a quick recap.

A Minecraft Movie 2

A Minecraft Movie chicken jockey scene

Release date: July 23, 2027

One of the biggest movies of 2025 was A Minecraft Movie, so of course, Warner Bros wasted no time in announcing that a sequel would be heading our way. Set to release in min-2027, A Minecraft Movie 2 will be bringing viewers back to the blocky and colorful world that is full of creativity and some pesky exploding Creepers, too. So far, the cast list hasn't been confirmed, and it's unclear if Jack Black will be back as Steve either. We may be looking at a fresh cast; however, that's just speculation right now, and we'll keep you posted as soon as any news breaks.

The Batman: Part 2

Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne during The Batman

Release date: October 1, 2027

DC fans rejoice because the Caped Crusader is coming back with a vengeance in 2027. The Batman 2 is the next outing in Matt Reeves's Bat-verse (just a reminder that this is separate from the new DCU timeline and James Gunn's The Brave and the Bold film) and will see Robert Pattinson return as Bruce Wayne. Currently, plot details are being kept under wraps; however, the first movie did tease the Joker, and then The Penguin TV show also gives us some narrative threads around Gotham's corruption to potentially follow. Hopefully, a trailer will be released soon, and we will get some more clues.

Gremlins 3

Gizmo in Gremlins

Release date: November 19, 2027

Gremlins 3 seemed like it would only be a dream for years, but it's in fact very real and is now schedule to be coming to cinemas in late 2027. It's about time Gizmo got his cute little butt back on the big screen. There are no plot details currently available for this upcoming movie just yet, but we do know that Chris Columbus is directing. Since it's near December time as well, maybe we will see Gremlins 3 go back to the original's Christmas roots. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled and wait and see.

Frozen 3

Josh Gad as Olaf in Frozen

Release date: November 24, 2027

Out of all the new Disney movies heading our way, Frozen 3 is our most anticipated 2027 release. Not much is known about the upcoming film, but Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel are all confirmed to be returning to voice the main cast, which is a massive relief. Since Frozen 2 ended with Anna becoming queen while Elsa is now hanging out with the spirits, we are guessing the new film will follow Anna trying to come to terms with her new role. We'll update you as soon as we know more.

Avengers: Secret Wars

A logo for Avengers: Secret Wars

Release date: December 17, 2027

One of the biggest events for superhero fans is the release of the second Avengers movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. This is the follow-up to Avengers: Doomsday, so until that film releases, we won't have any idea of the plot for this one. There are comic books for us to get some clues on what it could be, such as the destruction of the Prime Marvel Universe (Earth-616), and Doctor Doom potentially reconstructing Battleworld. However, until Marvel actually confirms its plot, we are pretty much in the dark for now.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Release date: December 17, 2027

I'm the biggest Lord of the Rings nerd, so I'm both excited and very scared about the upcoming movie The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. While the original trilogy from Peter Jackson still stands as some of the best movies of all time, The Hobbit and The Rings of Power haven't been as big hits. Hopefully, The Hunt for Gollum, which is being directed by Jackson, will set us back on track. The film is based on the appendices of Tolkien's novel and will take place primarily 17 years after Bilbo's birthday (after Bilbo gave Frodo the One Ring). It will revolve around the events of Gandalf and Aragorn searching for Gollum, who has also been captured by Sauron at this point. If you need more information on its place in the wider universe, you can read our guide on The Lord of the Rings timeline.
