A year since The Witcher 4's big reveal at The Game Awards, CD Projekt Red lead confirms "we won't be bringing any new content" to this year's awards show

'Tis the season, as they say, and now that the Golden Joystick Awards 2025 have passed, fans of all flavors of games are preparing for The Game Awards next month – especially after the big reveal of long-awaited titles like The Witcher 4 last time around.

For anyone unfamiliar with The Game Awards 2024, it was quite an event. From the Elden Ring Nightreign debut to our first-ever look at The Witcher 4 – one that notably highlighted Ciri as the next CD Projekt Red RPG's protagonist – there was plenty to get excited about. It sadly sounds like we might not see more of the young ashen-haired witcher this time around, however, as joint CDPR CEO Michał Nowakowski admits in a new online post.

The news comes despite The Witcher 4 being a nominee for an award. "I'm very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards," says Nowakowski. "Thanks to everyone who has already voted – your support means a lot to us. We won't be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we're, as always, excited to watch the show and celebrate this amazing industry's great night alongside all of you."

It's certainly not what I wanted to hear myself, as someone who can't wait to dive into Kovir as Ciri, come the RPG's hotly anticipated release – whenever that may be. Nonetheless, it makes sense. The Witcher 4 is a behemoth of a game to cook up, judging by everything we've seen so far, hyper-realistic horses that would make Red Dead Redemption 2 weep and all. I'm sure there's quite a bit going on behind the scenes at CDPR.

There's plenty to look forward to from the devs, other than The Witcher 4, too. There are upcoming CD Projekt Red games like the mysterious codenamed Project Sirius, another Witcher title that the team says will "differ from past productions" it's worked on. For fans who prefer to get a little more futuristic, so to speak, there's also Cyberpunk 2 – although, admittedly, we don't know a whole lot about it yet.

The Witcher 4 Ciri actor "is going to do a great job," according to Geralt actor Doug Cockle, who says he has no notes for the RPG's new star.
