=========================================

Section 1 --- Introduction

=========================================

I'm mystery and this is the first guide I've ever made in my life and its for

the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV...whoohoo. Anyways this guide will

hopefully aid you in obtaining every augment in the game.

Getting each augment can be tricky at times and it takes two playthroughs

to get each one. Which means it may take a while too. But once you get them,

you'll feel all proud of yourself and crap and you'll become a lot stronger

in the game.

=========================================

Section 2 --- Augments: What are they?

=========================================

=========================================

2.1 --- Basic info

=========================================

In this remake of FFIV, there have been several changes to the game.

Including the addition of a special type of item called an augment. To put

it in simplest terms, augments are used to teach party members a new ability

that improve their usefulness in battles. Some augments give you new

attacks and others might give you support in battles such as countering

physical attacks, increasing your attack power, your HP/MP, etc.

If you finish the game and begin your second or third playthrough, each

character will retain the augments they were given in the previous

playthrough. This also applies for any unused augments you may have had when

you finished your previous playthrough.

Augments also serve another function. When a character reaches level 70,

they will start to have slightly larger stat increases than normal. The stats

that are increased depends on what abilities you have equipped. If you have

the correct abilities equipped at the right levels, it is possible for each

character to have maxed stats at level 99! Keep in mind that it is impossible

to undo a level gain so be sure that each character has the right abilities

equipped when your character(s) gain levels.

You can give a character as many augments as you would like but keep in mind

that you can only have four augments equipped for battle. The items option

cannot be taken off for an augment. IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: Once you

give a character an augment, you cannot remove it. Thats why you need to

make absolutely sure that you know which characters need certain augments.

If you're like me and you want to see what each augment does, you can save

and then test a character with an augment to see if it works well with them.

If it does, then good for you. If it doesn't, then reset and try something

else until you are satisfied. If you really want to see which augments go

well with which characters, you can check out section 12.4 of SBallen's

walkthrough here. http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/939425/51274

========================================

2.2 --- Methods of Obtainment

========================================

========================================

2.2.1 --- Plot Related Augments

========================================

The name speaks for itself. These are the augments that are obtained as you

progress through the game. Usually you get them after you defeat a boss or

if a character leaves the party.

There are a few augments that are obtained after you complete a sidequest,

defeat an optional boss, or if you find a rare item and use it in the

correct place. Some plot related augments are only obtainable once or twice

so keep that in mind.

========================================

2.2.2 --- Inherited Augments

========================================

This type of augment is usually obtained sometime after a character leaves

the party. If you gave a certain character no augments before they leave the

party, you would only receive a plot related augment. BUT, if you gave that

character some augments before leaving, you would receive a plot related

augment along with some other augments you wouldn't normally get if you

hadn't given them any at all.

For example, if you gave a character two augments, sometime after they leave

the party you will obtain a plot related augment along with two other

augments. However, this does not apply to the characters that are in your

final party. (Cecil, Kain, Edge, Rosa, and Rydia.) Some inherited augments

are not obtainable in your first playthrough. Therefore you would have to go

through the second playthrough to get the augments you were unable to get on

your first.

However, if you did not give a character any augments before they leave the

party, you will not be able to get their inherited augments later in the

game. Meaning that you will have to do so on your next playthrough.

=======================================

2.2.3 --- Character Specific Abilities

=======================================

NOTE: For the remainder of this guide, Character Specific Abilities will be

referred to as C.S. Abilities

These are a little different than augments. These are abilities that can't

be given to other characters such as black magic, white magic, etc. While

they cannot be given to different characters, they still increase stats just

as regular augments do.
