Ready your debit cards: Amazon Prime Day has returned for a second bout in 2023. That's either good news for you (you've been waiting for cheap PS5 games or gear) or bad news for you (your budget is straining under cost-of-living pressures). The second round of sales will run from now until the end of Wednesday, October 11, under the eminently creative title "Amazon Prime Big Deal Days".

It's a pretty good time for PS5 bargain hunting, though we've just seen the PS5 go for as little as AU$649. It's back to RRP now, so don't expect anything in the way of dramatic console discounts for this sales event. Instead, games and peripherals are likely to dominate.

For some (but not all!) Prime Day deals, you're going to need an Amazon Prime Day subscription. If you don't already have one, you can sign up for a free trial here:

PlayStation VR 2 Horizon: Call of the Mountain bundle | AU$959.95 AU$779
PSVR 2 is an extremely costly piece of kit, but this bundle—packaging Horizon: Call of the Mountain with the VR kit itself—is a little tempting with a little over AU$180 shorn off the RRP. Definitely not impulse buy territory, but then, VR never is an impulse buy. This makes the unit's terrifying cost a little more reasonable for the everyperson.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for PS5 | AU$109.95 AU$54 (save AU$54)

A nice 'n' substantial discount on a recently released blockbuster, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a vast improvement over its predecessor, and looks beautiful on PS5. If history is any indication (ie, Jedi Fallen Order), this will probably get cheaper during sales events next year, but this is a great price if you want to jump in right away.

Wild Hearts for PS5 | AU$29 AU$20 at Amazon

EA and Koei Tecmo's take on the Monster Hunter formula has been available for well under RRP for a while now, but AU$20 for a generously-sized monster hunting RPG is near impossible to ignore. Definitely recommended for Monster Hunter fans, but it's also a decent starting point for genre newcomers too.

Sony Pulse 3D Wireless headset for PS5 | AU$159.95 starting from AU$109.95
Available in both white and black models, along with the camouflage set, the Sony Pulse 3D Wireless headset released alongside the PS5, and takes full advantage of the console's 3D audio. We described it as "seamless way to get the most from your new console's audio", and it doesn't hurt that it looks bloody suave, too. The white set is AU$119.95, black is AU$109.95, while camo is AU$113.95.

Razer BlackShark V2 X wired gaming headset | AU$104 AU$79 (save AU$25)
If you want a cheap and cheerful gaming headset for PS5, you can't really go wrong at this price. This BlackShark V2 X shouldn't be confused with the BlackShark V2, which is a more premium device.  Still, if you don't want to fork out a heap of cash for a very functional-verging-great headset, AU$68 is definitely better than the right price.

If you're after a cheap 'n' cheerful soundbar that also performs well, this compact Yamaha with a built-in subwoofer could do the trick. Enjoy surround sound with 4 different sound modes, each tailored to your entertainment preferences.

Sony HT-G700 Dolby Atmos soundbar | AU$695 AU$560.50 (save AU$134.50)

There aren't many Dolby Atmos soundbars at this budget level that sound this good, with both substantial cinematic scale and oomph. Still, AU$695 is a lot to pay for a soundbar —even if this isn't top of the range—so an extra AU$134.50 saving over its original RRP may entice you.

When do Prime Day PS5 deals start?

The second Amazon Prime Day for 2023 will take place on October 10 and 11 in Australia. That falls in the middle of a week—on a Tuesday and Wednesday—though it's not unusual for a lot of deals to drop earlier or linger a bit longer. In the past, Australia has also had access to UK and US Amazon Prime Day deals, hence ours spreading across two days. That said, the imports aren't often as cheap as the Amazon AU offerings.

There's still plenty of time to prepare to make any purchase. Take a look at the cost now and work out whether you are happy to pay that or would rather wait until Prime Day to possibly save some cash. It likely won't be monumental, but you could grab AU$50 to AU$100 off a console and likely half-price on lots of PS5 games.

Do you need Prime for Amazon Prime Day PS5 deals?

Anyone that wants to participate in the official Prime Day PS5  deals will need an active Amazon Prime subscription. Amazon regularly offers free trials throughout the year, so if you don't have a subscription keep an eye out for these offers.

As far as online outlets are concerned, Amazon reliably has PS5 stock, and it tends to be a little beneath the RRP most of the time, if only by a couple of bucks. Prices tend to vary from week to week, with the "Two DualSense Controllers" bundle offering the best value as of July 11.

What to expect from Amazon Prime Day PS5 deals 2023?

God of War Ragnarok

Prime Day PS5 deals in October will be one of the best opportunities of the year to walk away with a console or some top games at a reduced price, especially if you want to grab something this side of Black Friday. With stock finally available in its droves, we've actually now seen the PS5 console and PS5 digital console both taking price cut. Amazon's lows often hit AU$678 for the standard disc model, so whether it'll go lower than that or not, time will tell.

Bundles are another great way to go. The God of War Ragnarok PS5 bundle dropped to AU$789 recently, which is AU$10 off the RRP of the console alone. We're hoping to see bundles like this drop below the AU$799 mark even more going forward, including the Spider-man 2, Horizon, and Final Fantasy 16 PS5 bundles. The latter will have just been released on June 16th, so marketing for that will be in full swing – and it is exclusive to PS5.

In terms of Sony's first-party games, we often see them hit new record lows during these sales events. The retailer's daily deals and clearance sales can provide some absolute bargains. While we've seen Resident Evil 4 and Hogwarts Legacy hit new lows at the retailer, there are also the likes of GTA V, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the latest FIFA games that go for around AU$20-$30. We may also see some nice cuts on Final Fantasy XVI and Diablo VI.

It's also a good time to pick up accessories: Sony's Pulse 3D wireless headset have an RRP of AU$159.95, but we could see them drop as low as AU$110 during Prime Day, which DualSense controllers can sometimes go for as little as AU$58. Plenty of options for all.

If you want to continue your research and take it up a notch, check out the best TVs for PS5, best PS5 monitors, and the top PS5 wireless headsets that we've rounded up too.
