Save $15 - Avatar has been all over the sales recently, first dropping to $50 at the start of the year, then taking a further dive to $40 in April. Unfortunately, this one's jumped a bit from the $42 price we saw lately, so you may want to make a move before it jumps up more so.

✅ You find the joystick spelling method far too fiddly
✅ You long for the days of typing things out on a tiny keyboard circa your BlackBerry Curve days

Buy it if:

You play both PS5 and Xbox
You don't like having to charge
You like a wider soundstage

You only play on PS5

Samsung 990 Pro 4TB SSD | $464.99 $291.57 at Amazon
Save $173 - 4TB SSDs are usually particularly premium, and even more so recently when we've seen barely any discounts at all. However, Amazon has a fantastic $175 saving on this Samsung 990 Pro model right now. While it has been cheaper in the past (back on Black Friday), this is still the best we've seen all year. It's also a limited-time deal, meaning it won't stick around for very long.

Buy it if:

✅ You don't need a ton of storage
✅ You're shopping on a budget

Prime Day PS5 deals: FAQ

When will Prime Day PS5 deals start?

Prime Day is set to return for the 10th consecutive year this July. We now know that the event will officially begin on July 16, and run all the way through July 17. That means eager shoppers should be on the look out for deals from, well, now.

Do you need a Prime membership for Amazon Prime Day's PS5 deals?

If you're planning to limit your shopping to just Amazon during Prime Day, having a Prime membership, or taking out a free trial is probably a good plan. It might sound silly since Prime Day is an Amazon event, but other retailers are staying competitive these days, and there are plenty of bargains to be had elsewhere. To be safe, we'd recommend that non-members think about the free trial listed below - just time it right so you can cancel after Prime Day and not pay a dime for access to the exclusive deals.

Get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime

Get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime
You can collect a free trial of Amazon Prime, which - when timed right - will give you access to all the best offers without putting a penny into the subscription. But even if you're not interested in sticking with it, just go for the trial and then cancel it. Sign up then cancel before the $14.99/£7.99 per month cost kicks in.

What to expect from Prime Day PS5 deals in 2024?

Prime Day PS5 deals can be a great opportunity to claim a new console, some recent games, or some accessories for much cheaper than you would usually. There are now two best times of the year for this kind of shopping, and unless you want to wait for Black Friday sales in November, July is your best bet.

The best-value PlayStation 5 deals normally come in the form of bundles. For example, the God of War Ragnarok PS5 bundle dropped by $50 at Amazon last year, from $559.99 to $509. That means you're essentially paying $20 for a $70 title and, arguably, one of the best games of the last few years. We're hoping to see more bundles pop up, especially since Sony doesn't have any first-party games lined up for this year, and Helldivers 2 has been so popular. Maybe we'll see some sort of bundle to celebrate that, or for the new slimline machines.

In terms of games, we often see big releases dip below the $30 mark. Again, for this year you'll be looking at games like Stellar Blade, Tekken 8, and Helldivers 2, but more probably, we'll see games from the late stages of 2023 dip in price. For those awaiting serious Spider-Man 2 price cuts, if Memorial Day PS5 deals don't come through for you, July might be calling. The Spider-Man 2 bundle is still going strong, but it remains to be seen how this will last through to the Summer. Amazon will normally be good for these game sales, but keep an eye out for Walmart too.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X

Accessory deals are a guarantee, and since the best SSDs for PS5 have been up in price this year so far, we're hoping for big things from July's sale. If we can grab 1TB drives for around $60 again, we'll be happy. The best PS5 controllers have gone a bit quiet this year, so with the best gamepads for the platform beginning to age, let's hope we see some nice discounts. Let's all pray to Shuhei that we get our first DualSense Edge discount because that's long overdue.

Another thing to keep watch for is PlayStation's other hardware. With PC support for PSVR 2 confirmed to drop sometime this year, it'll be the perfect time to invest in Sony's second visor. Hopefully, we see some price drops, but what we're really longing for is a new bundle and some new big games. Similarly, the PlayStation Portal is still a hot ticket item, so we could see some bargains for that, or maybe some sort of bundle with the console itself. All remains to be seen, but there's definitely potential for July to have some good bargains for PS5 gamers.

Ever since playing Journey at the age of 15, I’ve been desperate to cover video games for a living. After graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a degree in Journalism, I contributed to the Scottish Games Network and completed an Editorial Internship over at Expert Reviews. Besides that, I’ve been managing my own YouTube channel and Podcast for the last 7 years. It’s been a long road, but all that experience somehow landed me a dream job covering gaming hardware. I’m a self-confessing PlayStation fanboy, but my experience covering the larger business and developer side of the whole industry has given me a strong knowledge of all platforms. When I’m not testing out every peripheral I can get my hands on, I’m probably either playing tennis or dissecting game design for an upcoming video essay. Now, I better stop myself here before I get talking about my favourite games like HUNT: Showdown, Dishonored, and Towerfall Ascension. Location: UK Remote
