12GB PS3 coming to US for $199, price cut in Europe

During Sony's GamesCom presentation, president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House confirmed the previously rumored price drop for the 12GB PlayStation 3. Now, you'll be able to pick up the console for $199 in America (or €199 in Europe), lowering the barrier of entry even further for Sony's current-gen console.

This is the first time the 12GB version will be available in the US, too, but we wouldn't recommend getting this version if you're serious about playing games on the console. Sure, it's cheap, but the hard drive space is pathetic, and you won't be able to take advantage of the cool PS Plus benefits when you only have 12GB of space to work with.

They is great for when my phat PS3 finally gives out. I've replaced the blu-ray drive and resoldered a broken usb port in the past year. Who knows what could happen with it next?

You forget to mention though that if someone is already planning on expanding the hard drive anyways, this is actually the cheapest way to get a PS3.

I meant to say cheapest and most efficient.
