One of the biggest upcoming Obsidian games is fast approaching, with the studio's sci-fi sequel to 2019's Outer Worlds set to launch in a matter of weeks now that October is underway. And while Grounded 2 is now out in the wild in Early Access, there's much more to come for the new survival adventure, with a Grounded 2 roadmap of plans ahead that will bring us more updates.

So yes, while the lineup is a smaller one than most, exciting times are ahead for the studio. In fact, it's already been a massive year for Obsidian, with the release of Avowed landing back in February as one of the best games of 2025 so far - you can learn more about that in our Avowed review.

Release date: July 29, 2025 (Early Access) / Full launch: TBC
Platform(s): PC, Xbox Series X/S

Shocking everyone, Grounded 2 was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025. Not only did we learn that we'll be able to dive into the sequel to one of the best survival games in Early Access in just a few weeks, but we were also treated to a separate direct that unveiled a ton of cool new features of the game. Set two years after the events of the original Grounded, our four teens are still missing and are still tiny. You'll have to navigate Brookhollow Park in order to uncover the community's secrets and get back home.

Now out in Early Access, the adventure introduces new creepy crawlies such as cockroaches, along with fresh biomes, and even mounts. Keeping the typical Obsidian brand of humor and RPG elements alive as well, we're excited to see how the game continues to grow as it makes its journey towards a full launch later down the line.

Release date: October 29, 2025
Platform(s): PC, Xbox Series X, PS5

The Outer Worlds 2 was first officially announced back in 2021 with a brief teaser trailer that tapped into the first game's signature sense of humor. While it didn't reveal much beyond confirming the sequel's existence, we finally got a release date and an in-depth look at the upcoming game during Summer Game Fest 2025. In its own separate direct after the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, we also got to see more RPG elements, fancy new weapons, and multiple comparisons to one of Obsidian's best games ever made: Fallout: New Vegas.

In terms of story, the action will take place in Arcadia; we'll be exploring a new colony as an Earth Directorate agent who's sent to investigate dangerous rifts. We'll also be meeting a fresh cast of companions who are all said to have dreams of their own - and whether you want to help them fulfill those dreams is up to you. You can expect to once again be able to shape your own adventure and character in what promises to be another choice-driven RPG from the studio.

Here are the best Xbox Series X games to pick up while you wait for these Obsidian gems. Or you can read our lists of all the upcoming PC games and upcoming PS5 games to keep an eye out for.
