Capcom is rumored to be working on a new entry in the long-dormant Darkstalkers series, reports Venture Beat. The site says its information comes from the same Capcom inside source that recently outed the developer's work on Resident Evil 4. This time, the source alleges that Street Fighter x Tekken producer Yoshinori Ono has already begun developing a fourth title in the fighting franchise, built on a modified version of the same engine seen in Street Fighter IV and SFxT.

Ono, of course, has made no secret of his eagerness to develop a new Darkstalkers: in 2010, he had a roomful of not-at-all-biased fans at Comic-Con confirm their enthusiasm for the series, and last year returned to the convention with the enigmatic (but very encouraging) promise that “Darkstalkers are not dead.” While this calls into question Yoshinori Ono's grasp of what the word “dead” means (vampires, mummies, Frankensteins and so forth are pretty dead, as dead goes), the Street Fighter maestro looks likely to have gotten the go-ahead for a project he's been nurturing for a long time – and we're hopeful for more definitive news.
