The Splatoon Raiders amiibo trio is up for grabs, but collecting all three will cost you more than the actual game

You'll need deep pockets to grab the Deep Cut amiibo

Splatoon is finally getting some brand new amiibo, and it's all thanks to Splatoon Raiders. The fabulous trio known as Deep Cut, who are a staple of Splatoon 3, have returned as a set of three figures, each as detailed as the last, and you can combine all three to make one neat Splatoon-fueled collectible.

I was about to lay down my hard-earned G to do just that, but at $24.99 (Best Buy) each, amassing the full set of Shiver, Frye, and Big Man requires $74.97 in total. To put that into perspective, a physical copy of the game is only $59.99. Not only are they collectively more expensive than the game they're intended for, but you'll have to lay down over $100 ($134.94 to be exact) to actually use them. That's not very booyah.

If the prices have you contemplating whether your collection needs the Deep Cut trio, this is where I'd share what they actually unlock in the game - but Nintendo hasn't shared that yet. The previous Deep Cut amiibo set, which showcased the trio in their Splatoon 3 outfits, unlocked exclusive gear to use in-game and photo-op opportunities, but Splatoon Raiders is a whole new kettle of fish. It's a single-player experience this time around. There's still plenty of ink-supplied artillery that could easily be unlocked by these figures, but we'll have to wait until July to find out.

Besides in-game inlocks, these amiibo might be hard to secure in the future, which is what is convincing me the most to press that 'add to basket' button. The X (Twitter) account for amiibo Alerts, a popular fan source for everything to do with the NFC collectibles, leaked an alleged GameStop memo, which states the figures were going to be available in "very limited" quantities. That could mean just for GameStop specifically, but it could also mean that once these are sold out, restocks could be a rarity.

Lately, Nintendo has been better at re-releasing older amiibo, so fans don't have to resort to greedy resellers. I now own a complete Legend of Zelda amiibo set thanks to restocks, but there's plenty of Splatoon series collectibles that have been out of stock across US and UK retailers for years now.

With that in mind, if you're a big Splatoon fan, it might be wise to secure your amiibo as soon as you can. I'm not trying to scare you like a big old Maws, but it's worth considering if you were questioning what to secure first, the amiibo or the game. Hopefully, the three figures will be just as readily in stock (and prone to discounts in the future) like the latest wave of Legend of Zelda and Street Fighter 6 Switch 2 amiibo - I'll keep my fins crossed.

Those of you in the UK have an easier way of collecting all three. They're available to pre-order as a set for £49.99 at Nintendo UK right at this very moment. You'll still be expected to pay £99.98 collectively once you include the £49.99 cost of the game, but not having to secure the three singularly and deal with the cost that'd come with is better than the alternative.

Hardware Editor

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
