Before we had the shiny new Nintendo Switch 2 at our disposal, I had serious fears that Ninty was going to abandon creating my favorite Nintendo Switch 2 accessory out there - amiibo.
It's funny in hindsight, as 2026 has been one of the busiest years for the NFC-integrated collectibles. From detailed figures released alongside Kirby Air Riders, Super Mario Wonder + Meetup In Bellabel Park, Pragmata, and more, there's no sign of the waves of toys-to-life collectibles stopping any time soon. Nintendo just announced that the latest Kirby figure, Chef Kawasaki & Hop Star is available for $44.99 at Amazon and set to launch on September 3, 2026. Just like the rest of the Kirby Air Riders lineup, he can sit in his own vehicle or try Kirby or Meta Knight's out for size.
If you aren't a Kirby fan, Splatoon Raiders is also launching with a new set of figures based on the Deep Cut trio. In the US, you can purchase the Ninty toys separately for $24.99 at Best Buy each, or grab all three for £49.99 (Nintendo) in the UK. Unlike past releases, these new renditions of Splatoon's Deep Cut can all combine at the base to create one big display, but you won't be able to do that until they launch on July 23, 2026, alongside the game.

That way, you can hopefully spend less time worrying about any pre-orders you've missed, and more time clearing up some shelf space - as you're gonna need it.
Do you need amiibo for your Nintendo Switch 2?
Amiibos are not the most important accessory for your Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike the best Nintendo Switch headsets, which I swear by for the best gaming on the go experience, you can get by just fine without them. However, they can make your experience with Ninty's latest handheld all the better, providing you have the budget to add one or two to your setup.
I've been collecting the NFC toys since the 3DS era, and have amassed over a hundred of the things, and they not only brighten up my games room but also my time with my favorite games too. Any time I delve back into the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, I always ensure I have them at arm's length, as tapping the amiibo on the right Joy-Con stick grants me a ton of chests full of extra weapons and resources. For a more recent example, the brand new Animal Crossing New Horizons Version 3.0 update landed, and because I own a vast amount of Zelda and Splatoon amiibo, I was able to invite the new exclusive Zelda and Splatoon villagers to my island, and unlock all the special items that came along with them.
Had I not had any of those amiibo, I'd have missed out on those new additions to one of my favorite Switch games. It's the same for all the figures I've listed above that you don't have to pre-order, but if you want to unlock extra content and experiences in your games, they are the way to go.
