PS5's premium DualSense Edge controller has never been cheaper, and it's my most used pad this generation

The DualSense Edge is a premium controller for the PlayStation 5 that usually commands a high price, as all pads of this style do. Luckily, as part of the Cyber Monday PS5 deals, Sony's elite-tier version of the already impressive DualSense has had a big price reduction. $40 off is quite the saving, making a huge dent in the near $200 full price and dropping it down to $159.99 at Amazon. Considering I use the DualSense Edge myself to play all my PS5 games, I can really recommend this offer.

Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and more already wowed me with the standard DualSense you get with the PS5 console, but the DualSense Edge takes things to the next level. Inside a lovely and sturdy carrying case are ways to customize the controller to suit your own preferences. My favorite are the back paddles - whether that's to squeeze out a jump mid-firefight in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, or simply to advance dialogue in lengthy RPGs like Metaphor ReFantazio, it's the kind of gaming addition that just makes sense. It can be hard to go back to the basics when your pal hands you a regular controller!

Save $40 - Like most high-end controllers, the DualSense Edge usually retains its hefty price tag, rarely coming under $199.99. A $40 discount is certainly hefty, making it far more palatable to spring for this advanced and feature-rich version of the PS5 controller.

Should you buy the DualSense Edge?

In our DualSense Edge review, we loved the controller but had some issues - most of which are negated by this fantastic price reduction. We called it a "premium-feeling controller", which it certainly is, but noted that for its price range you could do with paying a bit more for an even more advanced third-party controller. But, with this reduction, that's more of a non-issue. Though it's worth noting those higher-tier options do still offer features like more than two back paddles, which is a limitation here.

The other problem for some is that the DualSense Edge is essentially a souped up DualSense. If you don't like the iconic PlayStation layout, this won't fix that, whereas some others on the market that we love allow you to play in a more Xbox-like fashion with the asymmetric analog stick placement.

Still, this is a premium upgrade to the standard DualSense that feels great to use. The biggest benefit, beyond the quality itself, is that it's completely first-party, which means that all updates and button remapping are handled very simply in menus on the console itself. If you're looking for an advanced controller that goes beyond, all while building itself simply and easily into the PS5 ecosystem, this is the only controller that immediately does that. For many, myself included, that alone is a huge weight of the mind.
