Sigourney Weaver says she "hope[s]" Avatar 4 and 5 get made, "because they're two incredible stories that fulfill everything" James Cameron "wanted to say for our benefit as Earthlings"
Exclusive: Sigourney Weaver doesn't know if Avatar 4 and 5 will get made, but she hopes they do
Last year's Avatar: Fire and Ash took us back to Pandora, this time to meet the sinister Mangkwan, led by Oona Chaplin's Varang.
Sigourney Weaver's Kiri, meanwhile, developed her mysterious connection to Eywa and seemed to unlock a much deeper level to her otherworldly powers. Weaver has already revealed that Kiri would narrate Avatar 4, but, so far, both of the planned sequels are somewhat in limbo, with no confirmation that either will happen.
When we met with Weaver in London to talk about her role as Colonel Ward in The Mandalorian and Grogu, we asked if she has had any conversations with director James Cameron about Kiri stepping up as narrator in the next film.
"Well, they're all written, so I know what happens," Weaver tells us. "I think I see Jim next week because I'm going to put my hands and feet in cement in Hollywood, and he's going to say a few words. So, maybe we'll have a conversation where he'll say, 'I'm thinking of this or that.'
"I hope we get to do it, because they're two incredible stories that fulfill everything Jim wanted to say for our benefit as Earthlings, as humans," she adds. "But, whatever they want to do is fine."
In The Mandalorian and Grogu, meanwhile, Weaver plays a commanding officer in the New Republic in the Outer Rim, who tasks Din Djarin and Grogu with tracking down and capturing an Imperial warlord called Commander Coin. Their adventure also involves crossing paths with the Hutt Twins, who offer information on Coin in exchange for the return of their nephew, Rotta the Hutt, played by Jeremy Allen White.
The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives this May 22. While you wait, check out our guide to all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows for everything else that's on the way.
