Don't call it a comeback

Don't call it a comeback

If you've paid a little bit of attention over the last few years, you may have noticed a resurgence of games that have "Simulator" somewhere in the title. Like the flight sims of yore, these games attempt to recreate some real-world task with as much authentic detail as possible. But if you've really been paying attention, you know that Simulators never went out of style: they just adopted different naming conventions.

It's true! Sims depicting everything from Traffic Control to Family Finance to Telephone Repair have appeared on PC and major consoles in recent years, even if marketing departments insisted on giving them sexier titles. If you ask me, the solid - and often educational - fun of these 30 games need no embellishment. That's why I've provided each of them with a more accurate name and complimentary catalog description.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and was formerly a staff writer at GamesRadar.
