Lost Odyssey's free on Xbox One through December 31, here's why you should download it

Microsoft's finally worked out how to make Xbox 360 JRPG exclusives Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon work as downloadable titles on Xbox One, and it's celebrating by giving the former title away for free. They were previously only playable on Xbox One if you had a disc copy of the Xbox 360 version.

If you missed Lost Odyssey when it came out in 2008, or bounced off of its introductory chapters, you may not understand what all the excitement is about. For starters, it and Blue Dragon were two of the first projects from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi after he left Square. I'll let GR+'s own David Roberts tell you another reason why it's worth your time, aside from the fact that it's tough to argue with a free game.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
