Elodie Yung talks Daredevil season 2: "Elektra is kind of a sociopath"

A surprising foible of Daredevil's otherwise magnificent first season was the total lack of Elektra, Matt Murdock’s feisty (and, amid comic fans, famed) ex. She’s coming in season two of the Netflix exclusive, however, and actress Elodie Yung has spoken for the first time about how she plans to portray the dagger-wielding shockaholic.

“I wanted to keep the coldness of the character – Elektra is kind of a sociopath. This world is a game for her, a chess game,” said Yung at a Television Critics’ Association press tour. “What motivates her is what she wants. She’ll use anything [she] needs to use to get to her goal. If she needs to kill people, she will.”

The ‘lovers or fighters’ dynamic between Daredevil and his former flame is sure to prove a major theme of season two, and Yung says it’ll be just as challenging for audiences to fully grasp her character as it is for Murdock: “She’s not a bad person. She’s not a good person. She’s a person with different traits and layers. We’ll find out who she is really by the end.”

On the same tour, lead actor Charlie Cox discussed the direction of the series following season one’s murderous, enemy-snaring finale. “With Wilson Fisk in jail, the crime rate has plummeted. Things have returned to normal, if not better than normal.” The arrival of The Punisher, played by The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal, changes all that: “[Murdock] questions everything. Matt has to re-evaluate who is and what he does.”

Starring Cox, Yung, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Rosario Dawson, Daredevil season 2 hits Netflix on 18 March, 2016.
