Watch the final trailer for In the Heart of the Sea starring Chris Hemsworth

With less than two months to go until its release, Warner Bros. has unveiled the final trailer for In the Heart of the Sea. Directed by Ron Howard and adapted from Nathaniel Philbrick’s book of the same name, the film will follow the loss of the whaleship Essex in 1820 when it came under attack from an angry sperm whale in the Pacific Ocean. Basically, one long warning about fucking with the animal kingdom.

The previous Howard-Hemsworth collaboration yielded 2013’s brilliant Rush, but despite excellent performances and plenty of critical praise, the film didn't get much awards appreciation. In the Heart of the Sea was originally scheduled to be released in March, and the decision to move dates likely had a little to do with having it open closer to Oscar time.

If the trailer is anything to go by it certainly looks like a film befitting of the season, and with an experienced director like Howard at the helm this could end up being smart counter-programming to the juggernaut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens next month.

With an impressive cast that includes Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Tom Holland, Jordi Molla and Benjamin Walker, In the Heart of the Sea sets sail in the US on December 11 before arriving in UK cinemas on December 26 2015.
