Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson join Assassins Creed

Michael Fassbender is set to receive some A-list support in Assassin’s Creed, with Deadline reporting that Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson are joining the video game adaptation. Super Mario Bros. this most certainly is not…

According to the report, Gleeson will play Fassbender’s on-screen dad, while Irons will play the father of Marion Cotillard’s leading lady. For those unfamiliar with Ubisoft’s staggeringly popular series, Fassbender will play the descendant of a master assassin, who discovers family ties leading back to a shadowy society of professional killers, and realises that he’s inherited some unusual abilities.

Production on the film is set to get underway in the coming weeks, with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel set to re-team with Fassbender and Cotillard for a second time. Co-starring Ariane Labed and Michael K. Williams, Assassin’s Creed will open in the US on December 21 2016 and the UK on December 30 2016.
