Robert Downey Jr. reveals the "reshot" Avengers: Infinity War cameo that didn't make the cut
A Tony Stark scene almost had another familiar face
Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. and director Joe Russo confirm a pair of Avengers: Infinity War cameos didn't make the cut in the first act.
"We had a Happy Hogan cameo in this scene that we reshot, then we 86'd it," Downey Jr. revealed in an interview with CBR, indicating that Jon Favreau's driver-turned-confidant was originally intended to appear in Infinity War.
In the conversation, Joe Russo also mentioned he had a cameo in that opening act scene – as a paparazzi who chased Tony Stark and Pepper Potts in Central Park before Thanos' lieutenants converge on Earth.
Fortunately for those who wanted to see Joe Russo enter the MCU, he plays a member of the Blip support group in Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Infinity War, to that point, was the largest crossover of MCU characters ever assembled. From Thor to the Guardians of the Galaxy, through to Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange, each corner of Marvel's universe came together to battle the threat of Thanos as he sought to collect the Infinity Stones and wipe out half the universe.
Downey Jr.'s next role in the MCU, meanwhile, certainly isn't in proximity to Happy Hogan.
In Avengers: Doomsday, he dons the mask as supervillain Doctor Doom – with the actor saying about the movie and his performance: "We landed in a place that I think will more than suffice. It's not even about how I executed it. It's about the way it's been structured and the other characters."

The latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer showcased more of Doom. We're expecting at least a glimpse of the Big Bad in Avengers: Endgame Encore, a re-release that's set to have four minutes of extra footage.
