Avengers: Doomsday directors provide the most cryptic tease yet, but we're fairly sure it's about Doctor Doom
The Russo Brothers have dropped another cryptic Avengers: Doomsday tease
The countdown to Avengers: Doomsday is on, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo's latest cryptic Instagram tease has us scratching our heads. But the smart money is on something Doctor Doom-related.
Unlike previous cryptic Russo Bros posts, which we thought could be hinting at an Avengers Vs X-Men plot in Doomsday, this one is simply a solid green color swatch. Check it out below. Naturally, that brings to mind Doctor Doom, who is famously clad in green. Though the shade seems a little different from what we saw of Doom's cloak in the Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene. Has Doom already had a makeover? Only time will tell.

Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers are taking something of an unconventional approach to marketing Avengers: Doomsday's release on December 18, 2026 – announcing the cast with an interminably long chair-reveal livestream, dropping four teasers almost a year in advance over Christmas 2025, and showing the film's first trailer behind closed doors at CinemaCon. The Russo Brothers also confused everyone by explaining that the teasers aren't, in fact, teasers. Instead, "They are stories. They are clues," with the Russos advising audiences to "pay attention." What could it all mean? Your guess is as good as ours.
The ever-present Russos recently claimed that Avengers: Doomsday is a "complete reinvention" for Marvel," noting that: "What Marvel's done better than anybody in history is that serialized storytelling, at scale," while speaking on the brothers' production company AGBO Film's YouTube. "I don't think the audience is expecting it at all, what happens in the movie, and its tone and its subject matter."
Before Avengers: Doomsday hits screens in December, Avengers: Endgame will be re-released in theaters. But it won't be any old re-release, as it'll include new footage and serve as a "critical companion story" to Avengers: Doomsday. Though there's one theory about what that new footage could be that we're not sold on.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18 (aka, Dunesday). For more, check out our list of upcoming Marvel movies, or get up to speed with our Marvel timeline.
