Modern RPGs are curiously lacking in Jewish character classes. Thankfully, Obsidian is showing this underrepresented subset some support by including the "Jew" as a playable class in South Park: The Game.
“The Jew is going to be sort of our Paladin/Monk type character,” explained lead designer Matt MacLean in the latest South Park video on GameInformer. “The current design for him is he's a high-risk/high-reward character. The closer he is to death, the more powerful his abilities become. So you're strongest when you are at one hit point, but you're also just about to die.”
MacLean confirmed that combat in South Park will resemble Paper Mario in that the strength of attacks and defensive moves will be dictated by timed button presses. Individual class abilities will also play a large role in combat, as will the player's main weapon which can be customized and added to as the game progresses. He also explained that Obsidian opted for a turn-based combat system to allow players the opportunity to get hands-on with their popular South Park allies.
“A lot of the combat in South Park is really just kids being kids. There's a lot of juvenile violence with wholly unsafe toys,” said MacLean, adding, “When we showed Matt and Trey an early build, one of the comments was, you know, 'I want the kids the bleed more. I want the kids to cry more. I want these kids to really just treat each other like crap because that's what kids do; they're really rough with each other. So I think that was one of the things they really wanted out of combat: kids being little bastards.”
