Game music of the dead: Total Distortion

Game: Total Distortion

Song: You Are Dead (Game Over)

Composer: Unknown, but Joe Sparks probably has an idea

Above: You Are Dead from Total Distortion

Surprise! We usually reserve GMOTD for the weekdays, but seeing as it's Halloween and there's a song about death that we hold very dear, it's as good a time as any to share it with the rest of the world.

To be honest, I've never played Total Distortion or even seen it in motion. It's some kind of weird CD-ROM game from the days when "MOVING VIDEO!" was a big deal, so it'sa fair guess that whatever gameplay it had in the early '90s has since eroded away. However, the concept (make alien music videos for people back on Earth) is brilliant, and the Game Over screen has to be the best/worst (and longest) Game Over song in videogame history. You thought were hot... guess what, you're not!

We first came across it back inTalkRadar 20(one of our favorite episodes, btw), when after discussing thecheesiest game songs of all time, Mikel revealed he'd brought audio of a certain unsung game...

Above: It's onlytwo minutes! Give 'er a listen!

Truly remarkable. Somewhere in between a Futurama parody song and real-life, Wal-Mart background music for the Halloween costume aisle. Whatever your opinion, rest assured it's now stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Enjoy!
