SimCity marketing campaigns suspended by EA

Electronic Arts is pulling the plug on SimCity marketing campaigns. The publisher requested its external advertisers go dark in an internal memo obtained by Polygon, presumably as long as its server issues continue to plague players.

Affiliates were asked to "please stop actively promoting the game," and remove any copy promoting it. EA will still honor payments for all current ads, but it looks like the publisher doesn't want to draw any more consumer attention to the game until the situation is sorted.

Electronic Arts disabled several SimCity features in a patch Thursday to lighten server loads, including "Cheetah" simulation speed and leaderboards. It has also added additional servers to increase player capacity.

Unfortunately, given player responses on SimCity's official forums, many issues remain.

One of GR+'s news crew, Connor also writes features from time to time and does a lil' streamin'-streamin' on the side. Chrom is his husband and nothing will ever come between them.
