What is the GTA 6 GB size going to be?
Here's how much space we think you're going to need to install Grand Theft Auto 6
With games seemingly getting bigger all of the time, speculation about the GTA 6 GB size is already starting to ramp up, with players wondering just how much of their hard drive space they'll need to clear out come November 2026 to accommodate Rockstar's magnum opus. While nothing is confirmed at this stage, we can look at previous releases and current trends to make an educated prediction, so here's what I think the GTA 6 file size will be.
To get yourself ready, we've broken down all of the GTA 6 weapons and GTA 6 cars identified so far, along with the GTA 6 locations you can visit.
How big will the GTA 6 download be?
While it's too early to definitively know any details, we can all agree that GTA 6 is going to be huge – and that will no doubt translate to a significant download and install size. If you've seen the elements of the GTA 6 map that have been pieced together so far then you'll know that an expansive setting is on the cards, and with a diverse range of locales from bustling city to mountain wilderness that means plenty of unique textures, sounds, and more to squeeze in.
To make some comparisons, the base file sizes for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are in the region of 100-110GB these days, though that does include years of accumulated updates and additions. To take a more recent example, Starfield will currently occupy around 125-140GB of your hard drive, depending on what extras you have installed.
Considering current trends, I would make a conservative estimate that the GTA 6 file size will be at least 120-130GB, and could easily be significantly more. A 2024 post from @GTA6Intel linking to a now-deleted story claimed the file size would be closer to 200GB, but take that with a pinch of salt.
Another consideration is that the physical edition will only include a code to be redeemed for a digital copy of the game, and while this is likely so Rockstar can continue development right up to launch day, there is a cap of 128GB on Blu-ray XL discs – no one wants to go back to the days of GTA 5 on Xbox 360 spanning multiple discs!
While the above thoughts apply to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game, there's also GTA 6 on PC to think about, as PC games traditionally take up even more hard drive space than their console counterparts. However big the file size is, the GTA 6 pre-load will be available a whole week before the game launches on November 19, which at least gives you a few days grace to upgrade your hard drive or delete other games to make room – you won't be playing anything else, right?
