The next Kingdom Come game is an "open-world RPG," Warhorse confirms
So not a survival horror spinoff then?
The reveal that a new Kingdom Come game is in development has been a rollercoaster for fans. First, there was the revelation that, not only is Warhorse making a new open-world Lord of the Rings game, but it's also working on a whole new Kingdom Come project. Many including myself had feared Kingdom Come was being shelved to make space for Lord of the Rings, but somehow the relatively small studio has space for two ambitious sounding new projects.
However, because the announcement specifically said there was a new Kingdom Come "adventure" in development, and not specifically a game, there was some confusion about what form this new Kingdom Come title would take. Is it a TTRPG? A comic book spinoff? The movie that was announced six years ago? Nope, Warhorse parent company Embracer quickly confirmed the project is indeed a video game in the traditional sense, but that still left us wondering if it's an RPG like the first two games or something else entirely. My pie-in-the-sky was a survival horror spinoff, but alas, Warhorse has now confirmed in no uncertain terms that the next Kingdom Come game is indeed "an open-world RPG."
In a new community stream hosted by PR lead Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, and as highlighted in the below tweet from the Warhorse Twitter account, all doubts about the next Kingdom Come game's genre are firmly put to rest:
"You can expect two open-world RPGs," says Stolz-Zwilling. "One is a Kingdom Come open-world RPG, the other one is a Middle-Earth open-world RPG. Both of them are coming."

Stolz-Zwilling also reveled that Prokop Jirsa, designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is taking over as creative lead of the franchise following studio co-founder Daniel Vávra's pivot to the movie or TV show adaptation. Meanwhile, studio veteran and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 design director Viktor Bocan will lead the Lord of the Rings team at Warhorse. Stolz-Zwilling also reiterated previous claims from Embracer that, "if everything goes right," the new Kingdom Come game will be out next fiscal year, which stretches from April 2027 to March 2028.
What I'm most curious about is the apparent deletion of the word 'Deliverance' in the title of the new game. Unless it's just the result of some sloppy marketing, which seems unlikely, this looks like a pretty clear indication that the next Kingdom Come game isn't a direct sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, even if it's still an open-world RPG. More likely, it'll be a spinoff in the sense that it won't be a continuation of Henry's story, and could even focus on a new protagonist altogether. With a release date potentially less than a year away, it seems we won't have to wait too long to find out.

After earning an English degree from ASU, I worked as a corporate copy editor while freelancing for places like SFX Magazine, Screen Rant, Game Revolution, and MMORPG on the side. I got my big break here in 2019 with a freelance news gig, and I was hired on as GamesRadar's west coast Staff Writer in 2021. That means I'm responsible for managing the site's western regional executive branch, AKA my home office, and writing about whatever horror game I'm too afraid to finish.
