Baby Yoda isn't going to speak in The Mandalorian and Grogu, according to Kathleen Kennedy.
Despite some curious gurgles in the upcoming Star Wars movie's trailer, where it sounds suspiciously like the macaron-loving littlun says "yes" to a creature asking if he's scared, the outgoing Lucasfilm president described The Child as "another perfect example of a character that has to emote and you have to feel connected to."
"He never says a word," Kennedy explicitly told Variety, when the publication asked how it felt to see Grogu pipe up for the first time.
Starring Sigourney Weaver, Pedro Pascal, and the voice talents of Jeremy Allen White and Martin Scorsese, The Mandalorian and Grogu will see bounty hunter Din Djarin and the titular Force wielder team up with the New Republic following the fall of the Empire – and take a stand against the scattered warlords of the Imperial Army.
While it may be some time before we see Grogu chin-wagging with his pals, Star Wars fans have started speculating what his first words would be, with one Reddit user saying they hope they come "after he gets separated from Din and reunites with him. He says something like dad but not corny like that but something with the same feel lol."
Another referenced Yoda's more backwards of talking, suggesting: "The way this is".
The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22. For more on a galaxy far, far away, check out our guide to the other upcoming Star Wars movies and shows.
