After the third Deadpool movie smashed box office records in 2024, star Ryan Reynolds is finally thinking about a fourth installment.
"I have some stuff kind of written," said Reynolds in an interview with Today. However, if Reynolds does indeed go ahead with the movie, it sounds as though the mutant will be taking a backseat. "I think he’s a supporting character. He’s a guy that is great in a group," added the star.
Reynolds first made his debut as the potty-mouthed X-Man briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but came into his own in his first solo Deadpool movie in 2016. A sequel followed in 2018, and then in the summer of 2024, Deadpool joined forces with Hugh Jackman's clawed X-Man in Deadpool and Wolverine as the duo saved their respective realities from being purged by Charles Xavier's evil sister Cassandra Nova.
Article continues belowDeadpool and Wolverine was a hit, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, earning over $1.3 billion globally. However, the movie also introduced Deadpool into the MCU, meaning even if the fourth Deadpool movie doesn't focus on the mutant entirely, we still have a chance of seeing him in future Marvel movies. Although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm his involvement, it has been heavily rumored that Reynolds' hero might show up in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
So, what could Deadpool 4 be about? Well, with the hero now knocking shoulders with other Marvel heroes, the new movie could focus on Deadpool teaming up with another squad like the New Avengers or the Fantastic Four. There is also a new X-Men movie in the works, which is set to introduce a new group of mutants. We know that Deadpool likes to hang out around Xavier's academy, so he may well visit the new faces, too.
With Reynolds being so early in the development process, it is not clear when, or if, we will see the new Deadpool sequel. One Marvel hero that is getting his fourth solo movie is Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is the next Marvel movie to hit the big screen. After that, Doomsday will premiere just in time for Christmas, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
