Crystal Lake has arrived, and with all eight episodes in tow. After you've finished your binge-watch, you might have some questions about the new origin story for Pamela Voorhees and her horror-icon son Jason... and we're here to help.
The new series stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela, who goes off the deep end after her sweet son Jason drowns at Camp Crystal Lake due to negligence from camp counselors, combined with bullying from his peers. It also aims to answer a few questions that the franchise itself has only ever hinted at, and we've explained those down below.
Be warned: there are major spoilers for Crystal Lake down below. But if you're ready for an ending recap, or are just curious as to whether there will be a season 2... scroll on down below. And stay out of the lake and the woods!
Crystal Lake ending recap
After Pamela tells the entire story about Jason and Bellflower to Brianna and Lee, she decides she needs to go into hiding. Lee says that the only way to truly free herself from Bellflower is by turning herself in for murder. Elias walks into the diner and asks for Pamela's address under false pretences, and has Bellflower break into the house and search.
Down at the station, Pamela begs Lee to let her go. Lee tells her what happened in Newark, and how he got reassigned after using dirty money to pay for his late wife's treatment. Elias shows up at the station, pretending to be a sad, lost husband looking for his wife and child. Lee refuses to give Pamela up, so Elias sends in his goons to take Lee down. Pamela gives herself up, resulting in a shootout between the goons and Lee's partner Dorf (who throws a Japanese throwing star). A shot Lee manages to kill the last remaining goon, but the rest get away with Pam.
As they drive off with Pam, something in the middle of the road makes them stop the car (and that had to be Jason in a burlap sack, just like in the second Friday the 13th installment!) Pamela runs into a cabin to hide, but is found by Elias, who tries to convince her to come back to Bellflower, as Jason's experimentation had "purpose." Jason appears, and Elias tenderly takes off the burlap sack. For some reason, Jason is all big and teenage-adult size now. Elias tries to convince Jason to come with him, but Jason manages to smush his head in with the super strength he has thanks to all the experimentation.
He comes close to strangling Pamela, but lets go after Ralph shoots at him. Jason gets away, and Pamela laughs maniacally. We cut to teenagers sitting around a campfire in the same woods sometime later, realizing they're being hunted by something (though we don't know if it's by Jason or Pamela).

What Bellflower Chemical? What is Argonaut?
The prequel series tells a bit of a different backstory to Jason's physical deformity (hydrocephalus) and superhuman strength (though it's admittedly been kept pretty vague throughout the years). In Crystal Lake, Pamela is introduced to Bellflower by her partner Elias Wittering, who brings her to Bellflower Chemical during her miscarriage. Because the baby is still alive, Elias convinces her to undergo a series of painful treatments that will supposedly make her and the baby strong. After Jason is born with a physical deformity and is prone to seizures, he is put through a series of experimental tests known as the Argonaut program.
This name is taken from the movie Jason and the Argonauts, which is based on the Greek poem The Argonautica. In the poem, the Argonauts ride on a ship called the Argo, which is divinely built and serves as a metaphor for regeneration. Hence why Jason can't die in the Friday the 13th franchise: regeneration. This is likely why Elias is so dead set on continuing the experiments and calling Jason a miracle: he can't be killed. Though, Pamela does not know this.
Who dies in Crystal Lake episode 8?
The only significant and confirmed death in the season finale is Elias Wittering, the former husband of Pamela Voorhees (who took the name after fleeing from his evil grasp some eight years prior). Jason presses his eyeballs into his skull before fully smashing his head in.
Though Lee is shot, it's not revealed whether he lives or dies. Other significant deaths throughout the series include Grace's mother, the entire hippie clan, and Claudette and Barry (who are both stabbed by Grace, who accidentally took two tabs of acid).
Will there be a Crystal Lake season 2?
Though you could argue that the series suffices as a prequel for the original 1980 Friday the 13th movie, the final episode does set things up for a second season that could serve as a retelling of the first film. The episode ends with both Pamela and Jason haunting the woods. It would make sense for new campers roll into Crystal Lake with Pamela continuing her job as the camp cook, only for her to seek homicidal revenge.
If they were going for franchise accuracy, however, this would mean that Pamela would die at the end of season 2, season 3 would see Jason kill campers in his burlap sack mask, with season 4 seeing him finally donning the hockey mask. And maybe later seasons see him go to hell and take on Manhattan.
