Hal Jordan suits up in new Lanterns trailer, which looks more gritty detective drama than DC superhero show
A new Lanterns trailer has arrived
A brand new trailer for DC TV show Lanterns has arrived, and it showcases a project that looks more gritty detective drama than superhero show.
In the trailer, which you can watch above, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart clash, as both of them take very different approaches to the role of a Lantern. Jon disapproves of Hal using his power to counterfeit money, while Hal declares "the only way you're going to get this ring is over my dead fucking body." Ouch.
The tone of the trailer is very intense and serious, as Hal and Jon investigate what appears to be a ranch. "We're not leaving here till we find out what they're hiding," Hal says. But, we do see Hal suited up.
The trailer ends with newly announced cast member Laura Linney giving Jon some encouragement, after he declares he was "raised fearless."
Lanterns is the third DCU TV show, following on from Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2. It arrives after this summer's Supergirl, which brings Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El back to the big screen.
After that, it's time for Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which intriguingly will feature Jon Stewart actor Aaron Pierre. Could Lanterns set up the quasi-Superman sequel? That remains to be seen…
Showrunner Chris Mundy has described the Green Lantern show as "as much of a buddy cop show as a superhero show," which means the dynamic between Pierre's Jon Stewart and Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan will be front and center.

"Our show is in a lot of ways about replacement – when should someone step aside and when is it time for the next person to take the reins?" Mundy explained. "That push and pull between those two characters is really important. So much of the power that John has is by not taking the bait, understanding that you lose your power if you're yelling and screaming."
Lanterns arrives this August 16. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming DC movies and TV shows for everything else the DCU has in store.
