FIFA 21 RTTF guide: Varane, Pogba, Hazard and more

It's finally the end of the road where FIFA 21 RTTF (Road To The Final) cards are concerned – but what a campaign it proved to be. Throughout the 2020-21 season, it enabled individual player items to be upgraded based on club performances in European competitions. How did the mechanic work, and where can you find the cards? What are FIFA 21 RTTF cards?

FIFA 21 RTTF cards are dynamic items which receive improved ratings each time a chosen player’s club achieves a team-oriented goal in either the Champions League or Europe League. Let’s say a player starts with an overall rating of 85. Should his side reach the knockout stages, that rating leaps to 86. Win a knockout match and it rises to 87. Qualifying for the quarter-finals catapults that OVR to 88, and success there bolsters it to 89. A semi-final sees it move to 90, and winning the entire tournament boosts that number again, to 91.

Who is included in the FIFA 21 RTTF campaign?

FIFA 21 RTTF Team 1 launched on Friday, November 6, made up of 11 players including Mo Salah (Liverpool, 91), Antoine Griezmann (Barcelona, 88), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United, 86), and Alphonso Davies (FC Bayern, 84). A twelfth player, Mason Mount (Chelsea, 83) was added as an exclusive Squad Building Challenge reward.

The thirteenth FIFA 21 RTTF card was Jules Kounde (Sevilla, 82). That one required you to complete five in-game sets of objectives.

FIFA 21 RTTF Team 2, released on Friday, November 13, added eleven additional cards, mixing the Champions League and Europe League. CL highlights were Eden Hazard (Real Madrid, 89) and Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City, 85), with Moussa Sissoko (Tottenham, 82) and Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli, 89) the pick of the Europa League items. Joaquin Correa (Lazio, 84) was also added as an Objectives reward.

FIFA 21 RTTF Team 3 emerged on Friday, December 18, with Raphael Varane (Real Madrid, 88) and Paul Pogba (Manchester United, 87) the obvious highlights.

How much do FIFA 21 RTTF cards cost?

The answer to this question fluctuates wildly each time a set of European fixtures take place. Take Lukas Klostermann (RB Leipzig, 83). As a centre-back with 80 Physicality, 85 Defending and a crackerjack 86 Pace, the opening price for his card was 440,000 coins. That rose to 460,000 once Leipzig qualified from their group and those ratings upgraded, with an OVR of 85. With the campaign over, he's down to an affordable 55K.

Those numbers are ye-watering, although not even in the same ballpark as the big-hitting Premier League cards – at time of writing, Salah’s going rate is an even more painful 497,000 coins.

What happened if a team finished third in their Champions League group?

Great question. In real-life, any team who finishes third in the group stage of the Champions League gets magically ported over to the Europa League. The same happened to respective RTTF player cards in FIFA 21, but without scoring the usual one-point OVR bonus for advancing from the group stage.

Here’s the official line: “The player item will be updated to a UEFA Europa League: Road To The Final item; they will not receive an upgrade for advancing to the knockout stage, but will continue to receive upgrades if their club advances in the UEFA Europa League."
