Sony Santa Monica is working on something "freaking huge," and God of War II director and writer Cory Barlog is coming back to the studio to head it up.
"What am I working on, you ask? Good question," Barlog wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "Sadly, I cannot tell you... yet. But I can say that it is freaking huge, and it will live up to the standards that I helped establish here at Santa Monica Studios."
Barlog took over for God of War creator David Jaffe, who left Sony in 2007, to direct and write God of War II. Barlog left Sony Santa Monica in 2007 after making early contributions to God of War III and Ghost of Sparta.
He traveled the world and worked on various creative projects since then, most recently partnering with Crystal Dynamics to direct Tomb Raider's cinematics.
Sony Santa Monica shipped God of War: Ascension in March, and it's collaborating with Ready at Dawn on PS4 steampunk shooter The Order: 1886. Now Barlog's putting together a new internal team to work on his project.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and was formerly a staff writer at GamesRadar+.
