Matt Smith ’s last ever regular appearance as the star of Doctor Who in the Christmas episode "The Time Of The Doctor” was the second most watched show on UK TV on Christmas Day.
Yes, it beat off the challenge from the “old enemy” – Coronation Street (from back in the McCoy days) – by pulling in 8.29 million viewers live. Corrie got 7.9 million!
Number one for the day was Mrs Brown’s Boys, with 9.4 million viewers, but the most watched moment of the day was the Smith/Capaldi regeneration with 10.2 million (which, to be honest, may have been helped by soap fans switching over from Coronation Street to EastEnders ).
For those of you’d who like to know, the other big hitters on the day were:
4 EastEnders 7.78m
5 Strictly Come Dancing 7.30m
6 Call The Midwife 7.08m
7 Downton Abbey 7.01m
8 Toy Story 3 6.32m
“The Time Of The Doctor” performed better than "The Snowmen” did last year, which had an overnight figure of 7.59 million.
So now, we wait for the final consolidated figure (including those who recorded it to watch later) in about a week’s time.
