Blackbeard's treasure map in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is given to you partway through the game after a story mission called "Do Not Go Gently", but finding where it leads and where you need to dig isn't necessarily the easiest thing. Unlike the other Black Flag Resynced Treasure Maps, this one doesn't have marked coordinates to tell you where to start looking. Instead you need to interpret the scratches and scribbles on the map until you work out where you're supposed to go, and once you're there you need to solve a series of puzzles and challenges until you can find Blackbeard's treasure. I'll lay it out below with a comprehensive walkthrough that shows you how to find Blackbeard's treasure and complete the side quest.
How to solve Blackbeard's Treasure Map in Black Flag Resynced
Blackbeard's Treasure Map, obtained after the Do Not Go Gently mission in the main story, is directing you to go to Anotto Bay, the Smuggler's Den found at coordinates 590, 245.
We'll go into more detail about what to do once you're below, but keep in mind that you can't find Blackbeard's Treasure until you first obtain the map. If you're earlier in the game and have yet to uncover it, you can enter Anotto Bay, but you can't complete the steps for Blackbeard's Treasure until you actually get the map from him.
How to find Blackbeard's Treasure in Anotto Bay in Black Flag Resynced
Once you reach the Bay, there's still a way to go before you can reach Blackbeard's Treasure. Here's the full series of steps.
- Swim to coordinates 591, 249 and dive downwards. You should see an underwater tunnel you can swim into. A jellyfish floats nearby, which serves as a visual marker.
- Swim into the tunnel and dodge the shark that lunges at you. Follow it around and up until you finally reach a section you can climb up through into a small cave with a complaining pirate.
- Dive back into the water ahead and keep following it around, using the wood beam boosts until you climb up into a cave lair with a smuggler's chest (if you've been to Anotto Bay before, this is where it normally ends).
- This area is full of enemies. Clear them out, then pick up one of the small red powderkeg barrels in the middle and place it near the collapsed cave on the East wall. Shoot it from a distance to clear the cave-in and allow you to progress.
- This tunnel will lead you to a huge cave full of more enemies, including another complaining pirate. Take them out so you can do the next step.
- Get another small powderkeg from the entrance to this larger cave, and place it at the top of the raised path on the right of the waterfall. Shoot it to blow open a new cave.
- Enter the new cave to find a chest inside and complete this quest!
What is Blackbeard's Treasure?
If you want to know if this whole sidequest is worth doing and if Blackbeard's Treasure lives up to the legend... Well, that depends on whether you're in this for the gameplay or the story. Finding the chest leads to a cutscene wherein it's revealed that the "Treasure" is the farming and infrastructure supplies needed to make the Great Inagua hideout self-sustaining, effectively giving them the chance to try again at the free paradise that Nassau failed to be. If you go back to Great Inagua, there's final step to complete the side quest and alter the landscape of the town, though this has no gameplay effect as far as I can see.
Blackbeard does mention that he had other treasure, but no map leads to it. At time of writing it appears as though there's basically no way to get the rest of his loot, and it will remain forever hidden.
