Don't expect Uncharted creator Amy Hennig's Marvel game anytime soon, Paramount Games Studio head says: "We're giving them the time to cook"
“I don't think it'll be 2026.”
Good news, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is still in the works. Bad news: it probably won't release anytime soon. Well, you can't have it all.
Shawn Kittelsen, senior vice president, head of creative and production at Paramount Games Studio, tells IGN, "I don't think it'll be 2026," when pressed for a release date. Kittelsen explains that while the game has had a long development - it was first announced in 2021 with a 2025 release date that was later pushed - the studio is not rushing to get the game out.
"It would be better to focus on the quality of the game and making sure the team has time to cook," says Kittelsen, "so we're giving them the time to cook." What we have seen from the Amy Hennig-led project is promising. Marvel 1943 will be a World War 2-set action game starring Captain America and a version of Black Panther, as well as a larger ensemble cast.
He then assures readers that the game is "very real and we are continuing to invest in it." Kettelsen even mentions that he's got it in his hard drive right now and can go play a build. Part of the decision to give the game more time stems from Paramount's approach to AAA development. Kettelsen notes that the team is making the game on "a fraction of the resources you see on other AAA games of the same type."
Now that doesn't exactly instill confidence from the head of an AAA studio, but many smaller-budget hits in recent years have managed to punch well above their weight. Last year's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 especially comes to mind as an example.
As for Amy Hennig's still untitled and mysterious Star Wars game? Well, Kettelsen kept pretty tight-lipped on that one. "That's something we'll have to talk about after 1943." Don't lose hope yet, however, as Paramount Games Studio did just confirm the title is still in the works. The wait might just be a little longer.
