We're just weeks away from the release of Warner Bros. and DC's Suicide Squad, after which much more attention will shift to Wonder Woman. The first official synopsis for the highly anticipated 2017 flick has been unveiled (via BusinessWire), and you can check it out below...
“Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
It's also been revealed that Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg penned the Wonder Woman screenplay. Having previously collaborated on Wonder Woman comic book projects, it's safe to say that they're well-versed on the character.
The synopsis itself doesn't sound like it's deviating too much from Wonder Woman's traditional origin story, which suits me just fine. It's worth noting that this plot outline is pretty bare bones though; It's likely that Gal Gadot's hero will have to fight a powerful villain, for instance, which has yet to be announced. Here's hoping we get some more character confirmations at San Diego Comic-Con.
Directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Lucy Davis, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, and Saïd Taghmaoui, Wonder Woman will open in cinemas on June 23, 2017.
