After The Boys season 5's penultimate episode, fans are wondering how the show will be able to wrap up in the 65-minute finale
The Boys fans are feeling pretty disappointed after hoping for a feature-length episode
The penultimate episode of The Boys season 5 has landed on Prime Video, which means we only have one more episode left of the superhero satire. However, now that the finale's runtime has been revealed, fans are worried how the show will tie up all loose ends in such a short amount of time.
Due to the finale being shown in theatres this week, AMC has confirmed that The Boys season 5 episode 8 is 1 hour and 5 minutes long. Now, that's not out of the ordinary, as pretty much every episode in season 5 has hit the 1-hour mark. But, due to the next instalment being the series finale, it's safe to say fans expected a little more.
"The finale of The Boys only being an hour and not two is baffling to me. How are we wrapping this up in two episodes? I feel like there’s still so much to do?," said one fan on Twitter, and another added, "The boys finale needs to be about 2.5 hours long."
The main worry is how the final episode will set up the final battle between Homelander and Butcher after The Boys season 5 episode 7 was left pretty open-ended. "They somehow set up the final episode of the boys without refreshing the hate between Homelander and Butcher," pointed out one fan. However, it's fair to say that the penultimate episode did deliver some shocking deaths and saw Homelander make major moves in the Oval Office.
Others are wondering how the series will tie up all subplots. "One ep left and there’s still no mention of Ryan, still no mention of Zoe… and the Boys no longer have a solid plan on taking down Homelander," said one fan. We did see Ryan earlier in the season. But after Homelander pummeled him, the kiddo has been AWOL. As for Gen V, Marie and Jordan appeared in the most recent installment, but only for a few minutes.
However, many fans still have faith in showrunner Eric Kripke and believe he will deliver the finale we have all been waiting for. Many think Kripke might go against the comics, creating a reality where Homelander wins. "Homelander has still got the V-One in his blood. How fried are the Boys?" said one fan, and another said, "The Boys officially entered the 'either this is peak chaos or the writers completely lost the plot' stage."
As for the runtime, hours-long series finales are quite a new thing in the TV world. The Sopranos finale, Breaking Bad finale, and Mad Men finale all fell under the one-hour mark. Plus, Stranger Things season 5 delivered a whopping 2-hour-long finale, and fans were still divided over it.
