The Boys final episode is releasing in theaters, but not IMAX
Prepare to get wet (probably)
The Boys series finale is headed to theaters for a special, uh, sensory experience.
Rather than screen in IMAX, The Boys season 5 episode 8 will be available in 4DX theaters across the United States and Canada. Per an official press release, 4DX "pushes movie-going boundaries through a multi-sensory experience that incorporates motion-based seating synchronized with more than 21 different effects."
Basically, your seat will move, you'll feel wind when Supes are flying, and you'll feel your face get wet when someone gets absolutely slaughtered on screen. As someone who grew up with the Shrek 4D ride at Universal Studios and thoroughly enjoyed the part where it's supposed to feel like spiders are crawling under your seat... I'm here to tell you that 4DX is absolutely awesome. And if/when Homelander finally dies, you're literally going to feel it.
Article continues belowScreenings begin on Tuesday, May 19, at 9:30pm local time, ahead of The Boys episode's May 20 release on Prime Video. Participating 4DX theaters include Regal Cinemas, AMC Theatres, B&B, Marcus, Cineplex, Cinema West, Cinepolis, and Regency.
It's a fitting way to end an absolutely wild TV series, though we still do have some more VCU (Vought Cinematic Universe) coming our way what with the prequel spin-off Vought Rising. Gen V has sadly come to an end, though creator Eric Kripke says he and the team are committed to bringing those characters back elsewhere.
In the meantime, The Boys season 5 continues to air weekly. See our The Boys season 5 release schedule for exact timings, and check out our The Boys season 5 recap.
