Marvel fans convinced Avengers: Secret Wars is getting delayed amid new filming date reports
Filming is apparently kicking off in August
Avengers: Doomsday may still be a few months away but it seems like news on Avengers: Secret Wars is already trickling out. Originally it was suggested that filming on the MCU movie would begin this summer ahead of its current release date of December 17, 2027.
However, new reports suggest that production may be kicking off in late summer instead. In an interview with Fantastic Four star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, he was asked by Dog Day Afternoon's social media team why he was doing the Broadway show, which runs until mid July, alongside Avengers: Secret Wars which begins filming in August.
"This play I've been working on for a couple of years, it's been really important for me to do this," he said of the timing. "Then everything kind of worked out."
Marvel fans have been reacting to the suggestion that filming won't begin on the second Avengers movie until late summer – and plenty are agreeing that it seems unlikely it will make its original release date.
"It's so getting delayed to May 5, 2028," wrote one on X while another added: "That is quite some time later than Doomsday. Like 3 months."
"That's gonna have to be pushed to May 2028 to be honest," a third tweeted. "With an ensemble cast bigger than Doomsday they have to. Doomsday started filming almost in the beginning of 2025, this will be filming like 3/4 of the way into 2026 and make an end of 2027 release? I don't think so."
Avengers: Doomsday filmed from April to September 2025, with reshoots taking place in spring 2026, ahead of its release date in mid December 2026. If Secret Wars is to follow a similar schedule, it seems likely that it won't release until at least April 2028. At the moment, the release date is staying put and until filming actually begins, we're going to bet no decisions will be made by Marvel.
