If you're looking to make the Death Stranding PS4 to PS5 upgrade then don't worry, it's easy, and cheap. Although you do have to be careful you don't end up with two versions of the game. Read on, then, to learn how to upgrade your PS4 Death Stranding into the PS5 Death Stranding Director's Cut, and what you get as a result. If you've done it already and are looking for how to transfer a Death Stranding PS4 save to PS5, then we can help you there too. And we can tell you how to start the new Death Stranding Director's Cut missions so you can get started on the new stuff.
Death Stranding PS4 to PS5 upgrade explained
The first thing you need to do with the Death Stranding PS4 to PS5 upgrades is not download the PS4 version. You might think that the upgrade... upgrades the existing game, but it doesn't. The Director's Cut is an all new version of the game so if you download the PS4 version first, then get the upgrade, you'll end up with two Death Strandings on your hard drive. Which is probably too many.
So, instead, search for Death Stranding on the store and, if you have the PS4 version in your library, you'll see the full price replaced with the reduced upgrade cost - $10 for the US version, and £5 for the UK:
Hit the button to buy it and you'll then be able to download the full PS5 Death Stranding Director's Cut. That will get you all the bonuses that the new re-release packs in. Things like 60 frames per second on PS5, added DualSense features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. And then there's brand new story missions for players to undertake, as well as new side activities like a racing minigame, and new cargo delivery options like the Cargo Catapult and the Buddy Bot. That's a fair amount of new toys to utilize in the re-release of Kojima Productions's game.
