Sony's State of Play sales have long since ended, and I had assumed all of its deals ended with it. However, both the Death Stranding 2 On the Beach Collector's Edition and the Ghost of Yotei Collector's Edition, which include copies of the game and a smorgasbord of exclusive physical goodies, have returned with the same set of savings as the annual Sony event.
For a limited time, you can grab the Death Stranding 2 On the Beach CE for just $129.99 (PS Direct) and the Ghost of Yotei CE for as low as $149.99 (PS Direct), saving yourself $100 off each. These savings are part of a wider sale at PS Direct, which includes discounts on PSVR2 and even a rare deal on the 8TB WD BLACK Internal SN850P SSD. However, unless you have a spare $1,099.99 to spend on a spot of storage, I recommend sticking to these collector editions to get your PS5 deal fill while they're available until August 10, 2026.
Before you add either Death Stranding 2 or Ghost of Yotei to your online PS Direct shopping basket, I do need to give you a major heads up: neither one of these collector's editions includes a physical game.
As if the fact that there will be no new physical PS5 games after 2028 wasn't disappointing enough, these fancy and merch-filled versions of both games have included a digital download far before Sony made its big announcement earlier this month. That means that while you'll get a boatload of physical merchandise for each title, both Death Stranding 2 On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei are included as digital downloads. There aren't even empty boxes to add to your shelf, as is the case with the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, which is mega disappointing.
With that in mind, it's better if you see these deals as ways to get your hands on some exclusive collectibles above all else. The glorious 15-inch Magellan Man Statue, which was CG modeled, 3D printed, and produced under the watchful eyes of Metal Gear Solid artist and industry legend Yoji Shinkawa, is only found within this version of Death Stranding 2, and cannot be bought separately unless you're okay searching through the mines of second-hand sites like eBay and dealing with its extortionate prices.
Considering you get it, a 3-inch Dollman figure, art cards, a letter from big-man Hideo Kojima, and a fancy box to keep it all in feels worthwhile enough at $100 off today. You could think of the fact that the game and some in-game extras are included as a little extra, rather than the focus. At least, that's what I'm going to do as a physical game girlie.
