Civilization V map meticulously recreates World of Warcraft’s Azeroth

Deathwing may be going to destroy Azeroth in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. But in the meantime, one fan has taken it upon himself to meticulously recreate the old world of Azeroth in a most impressive Civilization V map.

The map looks great and features memorable areas from both the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Moonglade, Ashenvale, Un’Goro Crater and the Shimmering flats all look spot on. Have a look at some of the screenshots below. The attention to detail for the types of terrain and the map’s mountains are very well done.

An earlier version of the map may have been a bit too realistic, as it featured all the impassable mountains from the original game, so the latest version replaces many of these with hills.

Above: There’s Winterspring in the upper-right. WoW fans will remember it as the place where the infamous funeral raid of 2006 took place

Head to the Civ Fanatics forum to download the map and extract the files into your Civilization V map folder to give it a whirl. If you want to create your own Civilization V map, check out PC Gamer’s handy guide on how to use the game’s World Builder.

I don't know how moddable the Civ games are, but it would be mindblowingly awesome to see a Wacraft mod. Complete with the races, adapted timeframe and techs and complete with the missing area's.
