If you want to play through the futuristic co-op campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, you'd better get it on current-gen. Activision today announced that Black Ops 3's PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will include the competitive multiplayer and Zombies mode only.
The last-gen versions of Black Ops 3 were previously said to include two-player co-op, instead of the four-player experience available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Now Activision says that "the ambitious scope" of the co-op campaign just couldn't be recreated on the older systems. The multiplayer mode's Weapon Paint Shop, eSports tools, and other "features built to leverage the next-generation hardware" won't be included either.
To make up for the dropped features, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will cost $10 less ($49.99) on last-gen and also include a download code for the original Black Ops. The Call of Duty series began on PC in 2003, but it became a true juggernaut during the last console generation. Now it looks like it's finally leaving it behind - I'd be surprised if whatever comes after Black Ops 3 hits PS3 and Xbox 360 at all.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and was formerly a staff writer at GamesRadar+.
