Actor and tabletop RPG fan Joe Manganiello just revealed D&D Icons, a new slate of content that pairs legendary creators with their most beloved settings.

Serving as chief creative officer for the imprint, Manganiello teed up the first D&D Icons books at Gen Con 2026: Dragonlance from creators Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, The Legend of Drizzt by author RA Salvatore, and a Greyhawk project by Luke Gygax (son of D&D creator Gary Gygax) using his father's unfinished content. We don't have a release date for these yet, but the Greyhawk book will potentially hit shelves as early as 2027. Considering this project, the long-awaited return of Dark Sun, and the reveal of D&D Star Wars, it feels like next year is already shaping up to be a busy one for Dungeons & Dragons fans.

A bit of backstory

If you want an idea of what makes these worlds so beloved, you can find the first Drizzt Do'Urden novel in Kindle form for 60% less at Amazon, while the initial three novels of the Dragonlance Chronicles are currently 54% off at Amazon.

It's not the only return to Greyhawk we can expect in the not-so-distant future. Publisher Wizards of the Coast also showed off new adventure Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen at Gen Con, and it pits us against the returning villain Drelnza, a vampire who is trying to claim their birthright. Seeing as Drelnza is the daughter of Tasha (a longtime D&D character who is set to become our patron in the Warlock video game), that doesn't bode well for us.

Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen will launch in late 2027. According to the team, in a press briefing attended by GamesRadar+, this is a visually grand, operatic story that feels like classic Greyhawk but updated for the modern day. You can see concept art for the project below, with Castle Greyhawk itself appearing prominently alongside the majestic Yatil Mountains, rivers, and ruins. It feels like traditional high fantasy fare, which probably isn't surprising seeing as the official D&D roadmap places it in the middle of the "Season of Swords & Sorcery."

As for those other projects, we don't have much to go on just yet. The Dragonlance tabletop RPG book is the first one using that setting in 20 years to be overseen by creators Weis and Hickman, and it promises decades of lore crammed into one tome. Meanwhile, Luke Gygax using unfinished work from his father means we're getting a Greyhawk adventure with close ties to its original architect. Seeing as Gary Gygax was literally one of D&D's creators, it's a rare opportunity for players to go back to basics.

It's certainly been a busy Gen Con so far; besides Icons and Crown of the Witch Queen, the D&D World of Warcraft crossover finally broke cover. We were able to catch up with designer James Wyatt on bringing the MMO to tabletop in an exclusive deep dive, and he promises that this "will be your chance to explore Azeroth as you never have before."

I've been writing about games in one form or another since 2012, but these days you'll find me managing GamesRadar+'s tabletop gaming and toy coverage (I spend my time here handling everything from board game reviews to the latest Lego news). I've also been obsessed with Warhammer since the 1990s, and love nothing more than running tabletop RPGs like D&D as a Dungeon Master.
