Russell Brand is officially in the final stages of negotiations for movie musical Rock Of Ages .

Though no information about the role he’ll play is up for grabs, The Wrap have confirmed months of rumours regarding the Brit actor’s involvement in the film.

Meanwhile, TV actor and former singer Diego Boneta (above) has also signed on to the musical – and it sounds like director Adam Shankman is keen to launch him as the next big thing.

“On top of his completely un-self conscious charm, he’s a movie star the same was as I felt when I auditioned Zac Efron, Channing Tatum and Liam Hemsworth,” says Shankman of Boneta.

“It comes down to being able to identity the ‘it’ factor, and Jen and I have been lucky enough to do it several times. He has it and is every inch a movie star.”

Boneta will play a busboy who lands a job in the Bourbon Room (run by Alec Baldwin’s Dennis) and comes to blows with rock star Stacee Jax (Tom Cruise) while also falling for Sherrie (Julianne Hough).

Paul Giamatti will play Jax’s agent, while Amy Adams is in talks to play a reporter who falls under Jax’s charms – though now that she’s landed the role of Lois Lane, surely this is looking slightly less inviting.

Rock Of Ages opens 1 June, 2012.
