The Woolhaven DLC for Cult of the Lamb has a strong emphasis on Winter, with cold weather coming in periodically that freezes your followers, leaving them compromised and even potentially killing them if not dealt with quickly. There are multiple ways to deal with Winter cold in Woolhaven and stop your cult members freezing, though they're not all unlocked from the start. Here are all the methods we've encountered to stop the Winter freeze on your characters, and how to unlock them.

Right now there are four major methods we've encountered in Woolhaven to stop your cultists freezing during the cold Winter periods.

  • Rotburn Furnace: After completing The Knowledge of Winter quest and collecting Rotburn, you'll be able to build a Rotburn Furnace in your base. This has to be loaded regularly with the Woolhaven Rotburn resource, but prevents villagers from freezing while it's turned on. Later upgrades will allow you to expand it, as well as to mine Rotburn at home.
  • Bonfire Ritual 2: After completing the From the Rubble quest for Yngya, you'll unlock an upgraded version of the Bonfire Ritual. This ritual has all the standard effects, and also locks Cult Warmth to its maximum for one full day, regardless of whether you have the Rotburn Furnace running or not.
  • Baptismal Bath: Unlocked with Divine Inspiration on the technology tree that's unlocked with the Rotburn Furnace, the Baptismal Bath specifically serves as a way to remove the Freezing condition from cultists who have been cold for too long. It doesn't solve the problem of cold weather like the Furnace does, it just helps you manage the consequences of it.
  • Follower Wedding Ceremony: Unlocked when you start the Woolhaven DLC, marrying two Followers seem to render those specific followers immune to cold for a short time, though it doesn't appear to be permanent and is only for those specific followers.

More methods are unlocked later in the DLC, but for those gaining an initial foothold, the Rotburn Furnace and enhanced Bonfire Ritual are the main methods of alleviating cold in Woolhaven.

Winters will get more extreme as you progress, including blizzards that slow your movement and wolves that hunt your livestock, so make sure that you're adapting to the new rules accordingly. We definitely suggest stockpiling on food in the warmer months, as winter freezes over your farming plots and growing new plants becomes impossible.
