Prime Video's troubled God of War TV show looks set to recast a couple of key roles for season 2, but it may have been the plan all along.
According to casting descriptions seen by MP1ST (h/t Polygon), the young actors playing Kratos' son, Atreus, and Thor's daughter, Thrud, will be replaced by teenage stars for season 2. If you've played God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok, this makes a certain amount of sense given that some 3-4 years pass between the two games, and Atreus visibly ages up between the two titles.
Callum Vinson (Chucky) is set to play Atreus in season 1, while Island Austin (Insidious: Out of the Further) has been cast as a young Thrud. Both actors are pre-teens, but season 2's casting descriptions, if correct, call for actors between 14 and 17 years old to play the aged-up pair – suggesting a significant time jump between seasons.
Last month, it was revealed that series lead Ryan Hurst is being replaced as Kratos after a serious bicep injury prevented The Odyssey star from completing production. According to reports, four episodes of the show had already been completed at the time of Hurst's injury, and will now be scrapped and re-shot with a new actor wielding the Leviathan Axe. It's unclear if seasons 1 and 2 will film back-to-back, as originally planned.
Prime Video's God of War TV show is set to adapt Sony Santa Monica's acclaimed God of War duology, set in the era of Norse myth. Alongside Vinson's Atreus, the show's cast includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Sonya Walger as Freya, and Alastair Duncan, who's set to reprise his Mimir from the games. The search for a new Kratos continues.
