Chess + war = movie

He's lost Brad Pitt, got Russell Crowe instead and he's still filming crime thriller State Of Play. But Kevin Macdonald (The Last King Of Scotland, Prince Of Thieves) has wasted no time setting up his next movie.

Universal and Working Title have nabbed him to direct based-on-truth chess drama Bobby Fischer Goes To War. It's story of an upstart American chess prodigy who took on Russian super-player Boris Spassky in 1972 – and wiped the floor with him. Fischer (who died earlier this month) became a national celebrity and was even respected behind the iron curtain.
