With just under two months to go until release, it did seem unusual that Warner Bros. chose not to reveal a new Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer during the Super Bowl. That's because a pair of new promos debuted in the pre- and post-game shows. C'mon, there was no way the studio would miss the chance to get its superhero blockbuster in front of the year's biggest audience. However, these two spots aren't your typical 30-second mini-trailers.
Both Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) appear in the commercials, encouraging people to take advantage of Turkish Airlines' amazing deals to Gotham and Metropolis.
Going the viral route is a clever idea at this stage in the marketing. It's a fun way to generate buzz about the movie, provide fans with a new look at the cities and reduce the chance of giving away any major spoilers. There are however some sneaky easter eggs if you keep your eyes peeled.
If you are searching for more references, you might want to check out the Turkish Airlines website which now includes detailed profiles for both cities, as well as a contest to win tickets to the premiere.
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in UK and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.
