Xbox Series X optimized games are cross-gen Xbox titles that have been polished to a next-gen shine. Most of them will be available as free upgrades via Microsoft's Smart Delivery deal, but some third-party optimized games will be paid upgrades. How do you know which games are being Xbox Series X optimized and which support Smart Delivery? Well, with this handy guide - that's how!

Curiously, Microsoft previously confirmed that "all Xbox Game Studios titles that are Optimized for Xbox Series X" will support Smart Delivery, but a number of Xbox Game Studios-published games including Fable, Everwild, State of Decay 2, and Hellblade 2 aren't listed as supporting Smart Delivery on Xbox's own website. Further, Xbox isn't requiring third-party developers to support Smart Delivery, so we've indicated which Xbox Series X-optimized games support Smart Delivery and which don't.

We'll keep updating this page as we learn more about Xbox Series X optimization and Smart Delivery, so bookmark this page for an updated account of every game confirmed. For now, here's what we know will be Xbox Series X-optimized and what will be available on Microsoft's next-gen hardware via Smart Delivery.

Every Xbox Series X-optimized game confirmed so far

For the uninitiated, Smart Delivery is a new program from Microsoft that lets you download an Xbox Series X-optimized version of a game for free if you already own it for Xbox One. Microsoft has also confirmed that the above games will support Smart Delivery even if you're playing them on Xbox Game Pass. Want to know more? Further, some Xbox Series X-optimized games will be available after the console launches. Cyberpunk 2077, Microsoft notes, will be playable for free on Xbox Series X at launch if you own it on Xbox One, but the optimized version will come at a later date.

Finally, Microsoft also clarified that cross-progression is a feature supported by Smart Delivery, so your progress carries over from the Xbox One version to the Xbox Series X-optimized game.

I'm GamesRadar's green tea-fueled, late-night news hound. I'm perpetually in search of an MMO to recapture the feeling of playing Ultima Online in the early 2000s, and I'm still sorting out self-esteem issues from being relegated to second player duties growing up with two older brothers. On a related note, I'm irrationally defensive of Luigi and his mansion.
