Xur, Destiny (opens in new tab)’s travelling weekend trader, uncontested gin rummy champion, and galaxy’s greatest authority on Galapagos tortoises, is back in the Tower. This week, he’s in the hangar, hiding just off to the right when you first enter. Apparently he's lying in wait for a big rat he saw earlier. Dead Orbit say it was just a ball of fluff from the vents, but Xur is adamant that it must die. Anyway, on to what he’s selling:
- Peregrine Greaves (Exotic Titan boots) - 13 Strange Coins
- Celestial Nighthawk (Exotic Hunter helmet) - 13 Strange Coins
- Obsidian Mind (Exotic Warlock Helmet) - 13 Strange Coins
- Exotic Gauntlet Engram – 19 Strange Coins
- Legacy helmet Engram - 31 Strange Coins
- Three of Coins – 7 Strange Coins
- Glass Needle – 3 Strange Coins
The big win comes for the Warlocks this week, the Obsidian Mind standing head and shoulders above the rest of Xur’s selection. Or at least it would, were I far too tasteful to allow such a pun in relation to a helmet. Its key perk ensures that you can charge your Nova Bomb by, er, firing your Nova Bomb, which is exactly as obscene as it sounds. Combine it with a fast-super build, and you’re pretty much a relentless hail of fizzy purple death.
The Titan’s Peregrine Greaves are good for feeling a bit like Superman, but otherwise slightly limited in their use, making your shoulder charge more powerful when activated in mid-air but doing little otherwise. And the Hunter’s Celestial Nighthawk, while very cool, is a situational gamble. It combines all three (or four) of your Golden Gun shots into a single slug, which does six times the normal damage, which is obviously excellent for boss fights, but perhaps a bit dicey in faster-paced mob situations and the Crucible.
As per ever, Xur will be in the Tower until 10am UK / 2am PT on Sunday, at which point he'll vanish for another week, so make sure you stock up while you can.
